As demand for the ute that has redefined performance continues to exceed supply, Volkswagen has introduced a unique shade for its range-topping Amarok Ultimate V6.
In keeping with a variant that shares its V6 turbo diesel and transmission with Porsche and Audi SUVs, the Amarok Ultimate V6 now gets the decidedly premium option of Matte Paint for $3,990.
Director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Carlos Santos said that as with all questions concerning the Amarok V6, the concern is not over customer take up of this option as in keeping up with customer demand.
Supply constraints last month saw the V6 dip to some 30 per cent of all Amarok deliveries, a proportion Mr Santos said will increase to more than 50 per cent when supply is normalised.
The Amarok ute range starts at $39,990 RRP. The V6 Highline is $59,990, the Ultimate $67,990. Further V6 variants will be introduced this year.
With 165kW and 550Nm (180kW on overboost) driven through an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel-drive, V6 Amaroks are capable of reaching 100km/h from standing in 7.9 seconds – fully four seconds ahead of the next quickest rival. The Amarok also stops fastest, being the only comparable vehicle with disc brakes on both front and rear wheels.
"Customers will do what it takes to get their hands on a V6," Mr Santos said. "In recent weeks we've seen one travel from Perth to Brisbane. At auction, two Ultimates went for $73,250 and $72,250. That's 107 and 105 per cent respectively of RRP."
A total of 1461 Amaroks of all variants sold in the two months to February 28, comprising the major part of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicle's record 2117 sales year-to-date – an increase of 10 per cent on the first two months on 2016.
