Two special editions for two very different Volkswagen icons are en route to showrooms.
To celebrate 70 years since the conception of the vehicle fondly known as the Kombi, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has contrived a cool and contemporary take on the most feted VW other than the Beetle.
On sale in March, the Multivan 'Kombi 70' is based on the Multivan TDI340 Comfortline DSG. This enhanced people mover features two-tone paint finish that includes the choices:
- Candy White/Curcuma Yellow
- Candy White/Starlight Blue
- Candy White/Indium Grey
- Indium Grey Metallic/Deep Black
Bespoke touches run to:
- 18" retro-style 'Disc' alloy wheels
- Wood-effect flooring
- Good Night package (featuring fabric blinds, Multiflex board bed extension, washable bed cover, rechargeable mini flashlight and three drawers underneath the 3-seater bench seat
- Alcantara upholstery trim
- LED headlights with LED DRLs
- Electric power sliding doors with power latching.
On sale in early March, 120 examples of the Multivan Kombi 70 are available for $64,990 drive away.
Since its launch on November 2016 the Amarok V6 has redefined the twin cab ute market with its drivetrain shared with Porsche and Audi.
Available in April, and limited to 500 units, the latest special edition – Amarok V6 Dark Label – is positioned between the Highline and the Ultimate variants, sharing the 165kW/550Nm 3.0 litre V6 turbo-diesel engine (180kW on overboost), 8-speed automatic transmission and permanent 4x4:
The Amarok V6 Dark Label also features:
- Vienna leather trim with heated front seats
- Matte black sports bar and side steps
- Wheel arch flares in black
- New Design - 18" anthracite alloy wheels
- Black interior trim, including headlining and pillar trims

As to the inevitable question of an even more potent version of the easily class-leading Amarok V6, Volkswagen Australia's Director of Commercial Vehicles Carlos Santos said that all will soon be revealed.
"We've heard about this Mercedes-Benz collaboration with Nissan," he said. "Don't worry - the Amarok is not about to be left behind by the X-Class."
Volkswagen's Commercial Vehicles division of utes, vans and people movers achieved a record 15,688 sales last year – an increase of more than 14% on 2016.
