Former Vinfast engineering chief Kevin Yardley is the keynote speaker at the Society of Automotive Engineers – Australasia (SAE-A) annual general meeting and networking event on 27 June.
Two years after Yardley and most of his Australian engineering team departed abruptly from the Vietnamese car maker, he has a unique insight into a remarkable chapter in Australian automotive engineering.
He established Vinfast's technical centre in Port Melbourne in 2019, followed by acquisition of the Holden Proving Ground at Lang Lang in 2020, and in 2021 he became Deputy CEO of Product Development – but before the year was over, Vinfast had moved its engineering back to Vietnam.
The SAE-A networking event follows on from the society's successful APAC21 international engineering conference last year and continues its commitment to presenting unique engineering perspectives at it events.
Kevin Yardley heads a bill that also includes computer-aided engineering presentations by senior engineers from Ford Motor Company and LEAP Australia, along with the brief business of the annual general meeting.
The event runs from 6.00 pm to 9.30pm at the Richmond Social, 157 Swan Street, Richmond, bookings at www.saea.com.au/events.
