Citroën Australia is welcoming the latest generation C4 to its model range, bringing the popular nameplate back in an impressive single specification 'Shine' variant.

This newest member of the Citroën family introduces Citroën's latest design language which, true to the brand's DNA, is inspired by customer needs and the way they drive.

New C4 is a character-laden design with dynamic qualities, its raised stance reinventing the hatchback design by blending muscular Sports Utility Vehicle characteristics with hatchback versatility and stand-out coupé styling, creating a unique entrant in the small car segment.

It has the power to match its stylish looks, too, with a lively 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine delivering 114 kilowatts of power and 240 Newton-metres of torque giving spirited performance.

Driving the front wheels through Citroën's latest eight-speed Efficient Automatic Transmission (EAT8), it delivers both impressive performance and thrifty fuel economy figures.

The newest generation of Citroën's celebrated C4 line has returned to Australia with a bold new look that sets it apart in its class.

Eschewing the regular hatchback styling, new C4 combines hatchback practicality with Sports Utility Vehicle overtones for a distinctive, assertive look with an elevated posture, making it a standout in the compact hatchback segment.

INNOVATIVE AND ASSERTIVE STYLING

New Citroën C4's unique raised posture
New C4 Shine sets itself apart by blending compact hatchback dynamics with the character and robustness of an SUV, combining refined lines with generous, muscular shapes and trademark graphic details.

Short front and rear overhangs, large diameter wheels, overall design and a practical ground clearance give Citroën's newcomer an elevated posture that is both assertive and confident; a generously proportioned car with an impressive 1,220mm eye-point, allowing drivers to take advantage of increased visibility.

A modern, high-tech front-end
The front-end, with its V-shaped LED signature lighting, incorporates Citroën's new aesthetic standards.

Influenced by the CXPerience, Ami One and 19_19 concept cars, the design highlights Citroën's front-end signature with double-stage headlights and chrome chevrons stretched across the front of the car, extending upwards to the daytime running lights and down to the headlights, highlighting the 'Citroën LED Vision' with 100 per cent LED lighting technology.

Citroën LED Vision incorporates three LED modules – headlights, daytime running lights and fog lamps for a very graphic design which completes the innovative, high-tech front end.

A high, horizontal bonnet line gives new C4 a strong, robust appearance and is underscored by a front bumper using a matte black lower skirt to ensure durability.

The air intake grilles, using the macro chevron pattern first seen on Ami One and 19_19 concepts, show the attention to detail paid by Citroën's designers.

A smooth and aerodynamic profile
New C4's aerodynamic profile, blending soft and muscular body lines to highlight its robust character, is highlighted by the use of large 18-inch diameter alloy wheels for optimum ride and handling.

Matte black wheel arches, linked to the front and rear bumper skirts and AirbumpTM with coloured inserts, highlight the body shape while providing protection.

The unique roofline, combined with the sloping rear window and prominent spoiler, highlight new C4's aerodynamics and show-off its visual and physical qualities.

New Citroën C4's strong, dynamic rear
The rear end design, inspired by the 2004 C4 Coupe, blends dynamism and robustness with practicality, new C4 boasting a generous 380-litre boot easily accessed through a wide tailgate designed for easy loading.

Adopting the V-shaped LED rear lighting signature of the Ami One and 19_19 concepts while neatly mirroring the frontal design, new C4's taillights are linked by a glossy black strip.

The bumper skirt, matte black for protection and durability, has a gloss black trim surround for the chrome exhaust pipes while two outer air scoops on the bumper, connected by a styling line on the hatch, add a distinctive, formal finish.

Compact dimensions
New C4 Shine stands 4,355mm long with a generous 2,670mm wheelbase. It stands 1,525mm tall and is an impressive 1,800mm wide, its external measurements pointing to a generously proportioned interior.

New C4's exterior palette comprises seven standout colours, ensuring a broad choice to appeal to every taste. The colours are:

Broad spectrum performance
New C4 Shine is just as much at home in the city as it is on the highway thanks to its smooth and strong 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, turbocharged PureTech 155 petrol engine which delivers a strong 114 kilowatts of power at 5,500rpm and 240 Newton-metres of torque at 1,750rpm. 

Driving the front wheels through Citroën's latest eight-speed Efficient Automatic Transmission (EAT8) the PureTech 155 engine delivers impressive fuel economy figures to go with the performance, achieving a combined 6.1 litres/100km^ and 138g/km CO2 output.

New C4 Shine's magic carpet-like ride is achieved by using pressurised hydraulic shock absorbers with progressive damping front and rear.

The car rides on 18-inch diameter 'Aeroblade' alloy wheels.

THE INTERIOR:  MODERN, CLEVER, COMFORTABLE

A comfortable, high-tech interior
New C4 is the newest expression of Citroën's Advanced Comfort program, optimising comfort and safety while focusing on occupant wellbeing with a soothing atmosphere comprising comfortable, supportive seats, warm surface materials and multiple driving assistance technologies.
 
The innovative Advanced Comfort seats include a high-density layer at the heart of the seat structure covered by a 15mm-thick textured surface foam, providing a padded effect.

The seats are made for long distances and comfort is enhanced by C4's generous interior space, impressive knee room, abundance of clever storage spaces and the use of soft, supple materials and fabrics.

An expression of the Citroën Advanced Comfort program, new C4's interior impresses with its wide, horizontal dashboard extending naturally into the softly shaped door panels, creating a wraparound effect for an impression of protection and serenity.

Rear seat passenger comfort was given great consideration during new C4's design phase. Rear seat elbow width is an impressive 1,440mm, shoulder width is 1,380mm and knee room is a generous 198mm.

  Original and refined interior trims and colours
Thanks to the use of warm, soft-touch materials, new C4 passengers are immersed in a comfortable and cosy atmosphere. Soft materials are used in contact areas and the padding and topstitching pattern on the Advanced Comfort seats enhance seat width while reinforcing cabin spaciousness.

New C4 Shine has a Hype Black interior colour scheme comprising Black Siena leather^^ with Zephyr Grey stitching and black leather-effect textile.

The front seats are electrically heated, and the driver's seat features four-way electric adjustment with manual longitudinal adjustment as well as a massage function. The passengers' seat has multi-way manual adjustment with electric lumbar adjustment.

The rear seat has a split/fold backrest and the second row features rear air cents and USB charging.

New C4 features a slush-moulded dashboard top, wrapped front door panel strips and soft armrest trim with high-gloss black accents on the air vents, steering wheel, instrument panel, air-conditioning fascia, infotainment controls and centre console to add refinement.

New C4 blends technology with tradition
Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs) bring technology and modernity to the new C4's passenger compartment starting with high-definition digital instrument panel with 5.5-inch digital instrument cluster.

It is complemented by a frameless, ultra-thin, borderless 10-inch touchscreen positioned at the top centre of the dashboard between the central vents.

The instrument panel is highlighted by soothing white mood lighting, giving it a floating effect and is complemented by a large, easy to read, colour head-up display showing essential driving information in an intuitive manner without distracting the driver's attention.

The steering wheel incorporates driver assistance controls on the left spoke and infotainment controls on the right spoke.

The physical controls for the dual-zone automatic climate control air-conditioning use a combination of chrome wheels and glossy black push buttons.

New C4 also features a new e-Toggle shifter, an intricately patterned metal shift lever for the EAT8 automatic transmission. Offering three positions ('R', 'N' and 'D') for easy selection of 'Reverse', 'Neutral' or 'Drive', it also has two backlit push buttons: 'P' to activate parking mode and 'M' to select manual driving mode.

The central console also incorporates the electric parking brake control and the driving mode selector featuring 'Eco', 'Normal' and 'Sport' settings.

A NEW EXPRESSION OF CITROËN COMFORT

The Citroën Advanced Comfort program
The Citroën Advanced Comfort program is an innovative approach to meeting occupant comfort by offering concrete solutions through four distinct pillars. They are:

• Cosiness: insulates occupants from surface irregularities and wind noise, cocooning occupants and insulating them from the outside world.
• Convenience: a generous and practical interior maximising occupant space and providing ingenious storage spaces and accessible controls.
• Serenity: uses soft materials to create a soothing interior atmosphere maximising driver peace of mind by prioritising displayed information to reduce mental workload.
• Ease: uses intuitive technology, useful driving aids and digital continuity between the occupants' digital world and the car.

Riding on a flying carpet - Progressive Hydraulic CushionsTM  
New C4's suspension utilises Citroën's Progressive Hydraulic CushionsTM system for supreme comfort and a 'magic carpet ride' effect.
First seen on C5 Aircross SUV, this major innovation is the culmination of Citroën's suspension expertise, one of the brand's hallmarks for more than 100 years and hailed for promoting occupant comfort as well as vehicle dynamism and driveability.

Despite the fact some 20 patents have been filed as part of the suspension development, its operating principle is simple.

Where conventional suspension systems comprise a shock absorber, a spring and a mechanical stop, the Citroën Progressive Hydraulic Cushions® system adds two hydraulic stops on either side, one for compression and one for decompression.

The suspension works in two stages, depending on load:

• Light compression and decompression: the spring and shock absorber control vertical movements together with no assistance from the hydraulic stops. These stops, however, gave engineers greater freedom in the car's clearance, providing a 'magic carpet ride' effect to give the impression the car is gliding over any surface irregularities.
• Significant compression and rebound: the spring and shock absorber work in conjunction with the hydraulic compression or rebound stops to gradually slow suspension movement, avoiding jolts at the end of travel. Whereas a traditional mechanical stop releases part of its absorbed energy, the hydraulic stop absorbs and dissipates this energy, eliminating bouncing.

For added interior quietness particular attention was paid to acoustic insulation with wind and mechanical noise cut to minimise cabin noise intrusion. Special attention was even paid to insulating the engine block.

Advanced Comfort seats – travelling in a mobile lounge
New C4's seats are wide and inviting, engendering a pleasant feeling of comfort, wellbeing and support and giving occupants the impression they are sitting in an armchair, protected from the road.

And because new C4's occupants are sitting higher, they can see further.

Exclusive to Citroën, the Advanced Comfort seats were initially introduced on the C5 Aircross and maximise comfort by providing:

• Visual comfort: visible padding and an undeniable visual signature reinforced by stitching forming graphic elements typical of other Citroën models.
• Welcoming comfort: special 15mm-thick foam on the seats' surface adds softness and support from the outset.
• Dynamic comfort: new high-density foam at the core of the seats optimises comfort by avoiding any settling effect after long hours of travelling and prevents the seats from ageing prematurely.
• Postural comfort: the seat design optimises comfort through wide seats and backrests, reinforced support, some electrically operated front seat adjustments and wide, comfortable side and central armrests front and rear.

Smart storage solutions
New C4's fresh design has freed-up an impressive number of interior storage spaces with an array of individual compartments giving a total volume of 39 litres for greater practicality: innovative design meeting the ever-increasing needs of all passengers.

Unique storage and equipment for the front passenger includes a dashboard tray, effectively a large, sliding drawer with a cushioned opening position in front of the passenger to store and hold a tablet (or other object) in place in complete safety. The tray is covered with a special graphic anti-slip coating.

Other storage features include:

• A large area in front of the console features an anti-slip dividing flap enabling objects to be hidden under the flap or kept within easy reach on top of the flap
• A slot in front of the gear lever for small items
• A large central compartment with sliding closure, concealing two cup holders
• Ample space under the sliding central front armrest

COMFORT AND SPACIOUSNESS AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL

Maximising space
A compact hatchback must be a multi-purpose car and new C4 offers both compact exterior dimensions to maintain the agility needed for everyday use and generous interior space, thanks in particular to a wheelbase measuring 2,670mm, one of the longest in the hatchback segment.

The 1,800mm overall width (excluding door mirrors) ensures new C4 generously accommodates three people in the rear with 1,440mm internal width at elbow level and 1,380mm at the shoulders.

The generous 380-litre boot has a low 715mm wide loading sill, wide cut-outs and straight sides.

Cargo space balloons to 1,250 litres with the rear seat folded and for even more practicality, hooks are positioned on the side panels to hang bags.

A light-filled passenger compartment
The light-filled interior creates a relaxing atmosphere and is one of the pillars of the Citroën Advanced Comfort program.

It is achieved using a generous 4.3 square metre glass surface and warm materials including light-coloured roof lining and interior pillar trims for clarity and warmth.

A large, electrically operated panoramic sunroof is also optional on new C4. A spoiler-style to preserve rear headroom, it has a sun blind to adjust the cabin's desired light level. The interior is bright and comfortable with the roof open or closed, making every journey an experience in itself.

At night, the atmosphere is pleasant and reassuring, the LED ambient lighting on the digital instrument panel matched to the white backlighting of the driving and on-board comfort functions and the front and rear lights.

Safe driving technologies: a major step towards autonomous driving
When it comes to driving technology, new C4 is packed with the latest-generation technologies, putting it on the road to autonomous driving.

Those features include:

• Active Safety Brake: detects and analyses fixed or moving obstacles (pedestrians, cyclists or vehicles) day and night and automatically brakes the vehicle if there is a collision risk. This system is operational between speeds of 30km/h to 80/km/hr.
• Collision Risk Alert and Post Collision Safety Brake: operating above 30km/h, it warns drivers to the danger of colliding with the vehicle in front immediately before activating the post-collision automatic braking system, to help prevent the risk of an additional accident, such as a follow-on collision, if the driver does not react.
• Blind Spot Monitoring System: displays a warning light in the outside mirrors if a vehicle is detected in the blind spot.
• Active Lane Departure Warning System: alerts drivers and corrects vehicle trajectory if unintentional lane departure without indicator use is detected.
• Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go: automatically matches the speed of the vehicle ahead by maintaining the driver-selected safe distance. The system can also stop and restart the vehicle automatically using the brake or accelerator pedal.
• Coffee Break Alert: advises drivers to take a break after two hours of driving at speeds above 70 km/h.
• Driver Attention Alert: evaluates driver alertness by identifying deviations in trajectory from the road markings and warning drivers of reduced alertness.
• Extended traffic sign recognition and recommendation: displays the speed limit signs on the instrument panel as well as certain traffic signs (stop, one-way street, etc).
