S60 and V60 models
Volvo gave the mid-size premium car segment a big shakeup when
it introduced the groundbreaking, all-new S60 to Australia in
December 2010.
The rakish, coupé-style S60 sedan was then joined
by the svelte V60 sports wagon that was introduced in March 2011,
making headlines with its combination of performance, safety,
luxury and stunning good looks.
The S60 and V60 represented the highest levels of technology,
introducing a long list of innovative functions that re-set the
benchmarks in mid-size premium segment and confirmed their status
as the most high-tech Volvos of all time.
Both S60 and V60 featured Volvo's City Safety as standard, and
scored a world first by introducing Collision Warning with Full
Auto Brake and Pedestrian Detection.
With more space for passengers and luggage, plus the inclusion
of standard all-wheel drive on the premium T6 model, Volvo's new
S60 and V60 represent a powerful new presence in the mid-size
premium segment.
Now, both cars benefit from the arrival of two new engines: the
super-efficient five-cylinder 2.0-litre D3 turbodiesel that brings
high levels of fuel economy and reduces CO2 emissions without
sacrificing on-road performance, and the new 1.6-litre four
cylinder T4 which, with its smooth, turbocharged power delivery
brings outstanding value to both the S60 and V60 ranges.
"Both the D3 and T4 represent excellent value for money as the
new entry level vehicles into the S60 and V60 range especially the
T4, coming in under $50,000 for a luxury sedan,'' says Volvo Car
Australia's Managing Director Matt Braid.
"Sales of both the S60 and the V60 are strong for newcomers in
the competitive luxury market and the T4 and D3 will further cement
the S60 and V60 as genuine contenders in their respective
classes.''
The new D3 engine produces 120kW, along with a muscular 400Nm of
torque to provide surging performance both in the city and on the
open road, along with the high levels of sophistication typical of
today's Volvo diesel engines.
In the S60 sedan, the D3 diesel returns an average consumption
figure of 5.9L/100km and emits 155g/km of CO2. In the V60 these
figures are 6.0L/100km and 160g/km respectively.
Producing 132kW and 240Nm of torque, the 1.6-litre four-cylinder
T4 is certainly no slouch.
The all-new engine provides spirited acceleration and easy,
swift cruising on the open road.
The T4's performance compares favorably with competitors that
use higher capacity engines. It is extremely economical too, with a
combined fuel consumption of 7.4L/100 km, while the CO2 emissions
are just 173g/km. T4 models utilise Volvo's efficient six-speed
PowerShift dual-clutch automatic transmission to maximise economy
and performance.
The new D3 and T4 engines supplement the sporty 177kW 2.0-litre
T5 and the highperformance 224kW 3.0-litre T6, providing appeal to
an even wider range of new car buyers.
Standard equipment on the T4 and D3 models includes: power
driver's seat, rain sensing wipers, rear parking sensors, 17-inch
Njord alloy wheels, City Safety, High Performance Multimedia with
Bluetooth audio streaming and a 7-inch screen, three-spoke steering
wheel featuring a décor inlay and a grocery bag holder
in the luggage area.
All Volvo S60 and V60 models gain extra standard features for
2012, adding to an already comprehensive range of safety,
convenience and luxury equipment.
The Teknik pack adds power passenger seat, headlight cleaners,
Volvo Navigation System (VNS), Blind Spot Information System
(BLIS), Active Bending Lights ((ABL), "watch dial'' look instrument
cluster and chrome front detail.
The T5 R-Design S60 and V60 further gain 18-inch Ixion alloy
wheels.
All T6 S60 and V60 models are now fitted as standard with the
Volvo Guard Alarm system and the keyless-start PCC Personal Car
Communicator, the BLIS and ABL systems and front parking sensors
and rear lip spoiler.
Volvo also makes two-stage child booster cushions standard on
the outer positions of the rear seat in the V60 sportswagon.
The T6 Teknik and R-Design models further add a rear parking
camera as well as Adaptive Cruise Control which includes Collision
Warning with Full Auto Brake and Pedestrian Detection and Queue
Assist.
Volvo continues to rate safety as a high priority right from the
moment of design inception and the V60 and S60 feature all the
technology that makes the company a worldwide leader in this
area.
In addition to dual front and side airbags, V60 and S60 come
with full-length curtain airbags, as well as Volvo's WHIPS whiplash
protection for front-seat passengers and the SIPS Side Impact
Protection System that pays specific attention through the car's
structure - in addition to the side and curtain airbags - to
protecting passengers in a side impact.
With the V60 and S60 already at the forefront of vehicle
dynamics and safety through functions such as DSTC - one of the
world's most advanced stability control systems - Pedestrian
Detection with Full Auto Brake and City Safety, Volvo looms even
larger in Australia's medium-size luxury segment.
Both models can be ordered now with limited numbers already in
showrooms. Full supply is expected from November.
From October 1 until December 31, 2011 Volvo will be offering a
special introductory price on the new T4 engine. The S60 T4 will be
priced from $49,950 drive-away plus five years free scheduled
servicing, five years warranty and five years free roadside
assistance. The V60 T4 will be priced from $52,950 drive away plus
five years free scheduled servicing, five years warranty and five
years free roadside assistance.
All S60 T5, D5 and T6 models are also available with five years
free scheduled servicing, five years warranty and five years
roadside assistance.
