The start to the V8 Supercars weekend in Tasmania has been trying for Volvo Polestar Racing where Scott McLaughlin fought back in the second race to finish inside the top ten.

"It was a real tough gig today. But we could have been a lot worse off with the problems we had in the first race, for me ninth was a pretty good end to the day," said McLaughlin.

The Kiwi retired from the first lap due to a technical issue that saw the team racing against time to get the car ready for the second race where McLaughlin finished ninth.

"The boys changed the engine in under an hour which is unbelievable. The second race proved that we have a good car for tomorrow and hopefully we can get some good points because we need them badly," said McLaughlin.

Team mate David Wall had two tough races, climbing a couple of positions from the grid to finish 20th in both races.

"Not the day that we were after. I thought we had more left, I don't know what happened there if the track changed a little bit or if we missed the setup. We are going to have a good look at it tonight and we will try to get some more points tomorrow," said Wall.

The V8 Supercars weekend in Tasmania continues tomorrow with a final and longer race of 84 laps.
