Volvo Car Australia has clinched a top 3 position in the luxury car segment in May after achieving its highest monthly sales result on record.
National sales data released by VFACTs shows Volvo sold 1121 cars in May, continuing its strong growth trajectory in the luxury segment. While national sales in the segment declined by 14.4% in May, Volvo's sales increased by an impressive 18.6%.
Volvo's multi award-winning XC40 was ranked No.1 in the luxury compact SUV segment with 613 sales, with Pure Electric models making up 28% of sales.
Volvo's XC60 and XC90 models also hold top 4 and 5 positions respectively in the medium and large SUV segments.
"May was another outstanding month for Volvo which continues to consistently out-perform its competitors in the luxury segment," said Managing Director, Stephen Connor.
"Achieving our biggest sales months on record was an impressive feat when you consider the overall Australian car market declined by 6.4%, and the premium segment declined by 14.4%.
"Volvo is recording double-digit year-on-year growth which reinforces Volvo's standing as one of the fastest growing and respected luxury car brands in Australia."
In April Volvo announced the introduction of the Volvo C40 Recharge, its second pure electric model. The introduction is another step along the way to Volvo's goal of making Electric Vehicles account for half the cars Volvo sells globally by 2025, as part of an overall plan to go completely Pure-Electric by 2030.
"The future of Volvo Cars is electric, and I plan to make Australia lead our global strategy by being ahead of our global stated goal." Mr Connor said.
