In an electrifying new collaboration, Suzuki Motor Corporation and Toyota Motor Corporation are gearing up to introduce a Suzuki-designed, all-electric SUV built, developed by Suzuki to Toyota, at Suzuki’s plant in Gujarat, India, starting in 2025. This innovative partnership marks a milestone as Suzuki and Toyota combine their strengths to shape the EV landscape.
Both Suzuki and Toyota trace their origins to Enshu, in western Shizuoka Prefecture, where they transitioned from looms to the automotive industry. Since Suzuki’s Chairman Osamu Suzuki and Toyota’s President Akio Toyoda began exploring partnerships in 2016, their collaboration has expanded significantly. They aim to enhance mobility and driving enjoyment through various initiatives, including vehicle production, mutual supply, and the promotion of electrified vehicles. This collaboration has facilitated the launch of vehicles in markets across Japan, India, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
This launch signifies the first Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) in the OEM partnership between Suzuki and Toyota, marking a significant step forward. The new BEV model will be marketed globally for Toyota, adding an electric SUV option to a rapidly growing segment. Both companies will continue to advance their commitments toward a carbon-neutral future.
Emphasising the significance of this exciting collaboration, Suzuki President Toshihiro Suzuki stated, “Suzuki will supply our first BEV to Toyota globally. I am grateful that the collaboration between the two companies has further deepened in this way. While continuing to be competitors, we will deepen our collaborations toward solving social issues, including the realization of a carbon-neutral society through a multi-pathway approach.”
“Suzuki and Toyota’s partnership marks a fantastic moment for sustainable automotive innovation. For our consumers, it is about delivering vehicles that are both environmentally conscious and incredibly engaging to drive. This partnership not only benefits the Suzuki brand on a global level but also underscores our commitment to a cleaner, brighter future.” - Michael Pachota, General Manager - Automobile, Suzuki Australia.
This agile BEV SUV promises sharp driving dynamics, a generous cruising range, and a comfortable interior. It will also offer a 4WD system for outstanding performance on rough terrain. The BEV unit and platform for this model are jointly developed by Suzuki, Toyota, and Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd., leveraging each company's unique strengths to create a superior driving experience.
