AN INVITING INTERIOR
Latest generation Peugeot i-Cockpit™
All-new Peugeot 2008 SUV's i-CockpitTM design is the latest iteration of a concept that has evolved through a number of Peugeot models.
This latest i-CockpitTM development has a design philosophy that centres around a 'command centre' that is able to put drivers in complete control, giving them a greater connection to the road through a full complement of features.
Configurable 3D head-up digital instrument panel
Peugeot's i-CockpitTM cluster for all-new 2008 SUV is a unique system that projects information across different layers, delivering an outstanding holographic 3-dimensional effect that can be customised by drivers to suit individual needs.
Crisp, colourful instrument panel graphics boast a variety of display modes
Drivers can choose between six individual instrument panel modes on the new 3D i-CockpitTM layout. They are:
- Minimal mode - a uncluttered view, with priority info display only.
- Dial mode - a classic view replicating the analogue gauge display of most contemporary cars, the display shows analogue and digital speed and odometer readouts plus fuel and temperature gauges and tachometer displays.
- Navigation mode - this layout moves the instrument displays to the sides and places 3D navigation with instructions at the display's centre.
- Driving mode - instrument displays are shown as above and driver assistance information is shown at the centre of the display.
- Personal 1/Personal 2 –driver-selectable display modes showing the standard display along with information related to driver assist systems and performance functions.
Compact, multi-function steering wheel
The steering wheel's compact dimensions and stylish new shape enhance every journey, not only through the added controllability provided by its modest size but also by the comfort provided by its thick, padded rim and placement below the head-up instrument display.
On the highway its modest diameter increases the instrument panel's visibility and, when the road gets twisty and exciting, it helps heighten driver responses and adds to the car's overall feeling of agility.
In urban confines and tight carparks, it lightens the load when manoeuvring and makes easy work of getting into and out of tight spaces.
Adding to the overall practicality of the all-new Peugeot 2008 SUV's cabin, the steering wheel has audio and telephone controls on its spokes.
High definition colour touchscreens for all-new Peugeot 2008 SUV
All-new Peugeot 2008 SUV has a high definition (HD) capacitive colour touchscreen mounted above the centre console in the dashboard's centre to manage the infotainment system as well as some of the car's key systems.
Clear graphics provide easy viewing, capacitive technology ensures smartphone levels of responsiveness and multi-touch technology maximises functionality.
The touchscreen features easy access buttons on either side as well as a row of stylish 'piano key' toggle switches below it on the centre console for complete, easily accessible functionality.
The centre screen area is the control point for the climate-control air conditioning, audio system (including DAB+ radio), Apple CarPlay® and Android AutoTM connectivity, connected 3D navigation and Bluetooth smartphone connectivity.
Screen size is model dependent. Allure has a 7-inch screen and GT and GT Sport a 10-inch display, the bigger screen giving a wider, more panoramic view.
The 10-inch screen also integrates with the air conditioning climate controls on either side and a row of 'piano key' switches for HVAC control and audio volume is positioned below the screen and at the forward edge of the centre console for easy accessibility. The screens on both model grades are angled towards the driver.
3D Navigation
All-new Peugeot 2008 SUV GT and GT Sport has standard 3D Navigation linked to the 10-inch, HD capacitive colour touchscreen.
The system, with TomTom navigation, features full mapping as well as voice recognition for navigation, radio and telephone functions.
Eight-colour ambient interior lighting (GT and GT Sport)
Ambient interior lighting means drivers and passengers can pick a hue to match their driving mood: quiet, happy, funky or anything in between.
Eight colours are available, ensuring that, whatever the mood, it can be matched perfectly. Choose red for dynamism, blue for serenity or a broad range of colours in-between.
Colour choices are green, teal, blue, white, cream, orange, red and pink.
Load space versatility
Use of a two-position boot floor expands the load area versatility by giving a choice of maximised boot volume when the rear seat is used by occupants or a flat floor when the one-third/two-thirds rear seats are fully folded.
AN UNCOMPROMISING EXTERIOR DESIGN
Attention-getting style
The all-new Peugeot 2008 SUV is unlikely to go un-noticed, its striking exterior design gaining attention regardless of the way it is viewed.
Bold details abound through assertive triangular lines that ensure its design remains consistently vibrant.
Vertically-positioned Daytime Running Lights flanking the prominent radiator grille have a unique 'sabre tooth' appearance while at the rear a horizontal gloss-black garnish is flanked by full LED lighting designed to give a definitive 3D appearance and create Peugeot's 'Claw Effect' lighting signature.
Unmistakeable front-end design
At the front, the sharp headlights – Eco LED for Allure and full LED for GT and GT Sport – echo the car's striking styling and the dominant vertical LED daytime running lights give symmetry to the front end.
The front lighting takes its inspiration from Peugeot's 2017 Instinct concept car and is the next generation of the company's distinctive 'three claw' lighting design theme.
The tall, prominent grille, which dives deeply into the forward bodywork and is split horizontally by the broad, single-bar bumper, features a chrome chequered look for Allure variants and a dark chrome, chequered vertical slat design with gloss black edge trim for GT and GT Sport.
Below the lower grille opening a prominent spoiler not only helps define all-new Peugeot 2008 as a sporty SUV but also shows that aerodynamic needs played a part in its design.
Full LED headlights (GT and GT Sport)
Standard on the Peugeot 2008 GT and GT Sport, Light Emitting Diode (LED) headlights have a number of benefits including:
- Reduced energy consumption
- Whiter light for greater visibility
- Reduced driver eye fatigue
- No warm-up time (compared to halogen lighting)
- A much greater lifespan than halogen
- A striking visual signature to complement the sharp design
As well as being used for the all-new 2008 SUV's headlights, LED lighting technology is also used for its brake lights, indicators and all interior lighting.
SAFETY PRIORITY FOR PEUGEOT'S ALL-NEW 2008 SUV
The Peugeot 2008 range features a comprehensive suite of active and passive safety features including, but not limited to, key technologies highlighted below.
Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB)
Standard on both all-new Peugeot 2008 SUV grades, AEB is an intelligent autonomous braking system designed to avoid or limit collision severity by reducing pre-collision vehicle speed once a situation has been detected.
The system activates when it detects drivers are not reacting quickly enough, applying the brakes to slow or stop the car.
ASBS uses a front bumper-mounted radar as well as a multi-function camera positioned at the top of the windscreen, where it can detect obstructions on the road ahead.
Distance Alert System
Working in conjunction with the Automatic Emergency Braking System, Distance Alert warns drivers whenever there is a risk of collision with a vehicle or pedestrian ahead of the car.
Two warning levels are available. 'Amber' is a visual alert to the potential risk and 'Red' adds an audible alert, indicating that a collision is imminent and immediate driver action is required.
If drivers fail to act the Automatic Emergency Braking System is triggered.
Active Blind Spot Detection (ABSD)
Standard on GT and GT Sport, ABSD uses lateral ultrasound sensors which work in conjunction with the windscreen-mounted camera to cover areas outside a driver's field of vision.
Used when the all-new Peugeot 2008 SUV is overtaking - or being overtaken by - another vehicle, it illuminates an LED light in either door mirror to alert drivers to the presence of a range of vehicles including bicycles, motorcycles, cars or trucks.
Additionally, ABSD features a trajectory correction system that works with the Active Lane Keeping assistance system.
The system influences the steering if a road line is crossed and a vehicle is detected in the blind spot, even if a turn indicator is activated. The system will attempt to avoid collisions with obstacles not detected by the driver.
Distance Alert
Gives an audible warning and displays a visual warning on the dashboard when the distance to a vehicle ahead presents a safety risk.
Autonomous Emergency Brake with night-time pedestrian detection (GT and GT Sport)
Autonomous Emergency Braking is activated by both the windscreen-mounted camera and grille-mounted radar and operates at speeds between 10km/h and 140km/h.
The system aims to reduce the severity of the impact or avoid the impact. It is triggered when driver does not react quickly enough or does not operate the brakes.
The technology functions during daylight as well as low light conditions and can detect motor vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians.
Peugeot Smartbeam Assistance
Peugeot Smartbeam Assistance means drivers have one less thing to worry about when driving at night.
Controlled by the windscreen-mounted camera, the system continually monitors driving conditions, including the proximity of other vehicles either travelling in the same direction or approaching and automatically switches the LED headlights between low beam and high beam (depending on light levels and traffic conditions).
Driver Attention Alert System (DAA)
To help keep drivers alert, all-new Peugeot 2008 SUV has a two-stage driver alert system for improved road safety.
Controlled by the windscreen-mounted camera, DAA analyses vehicle trajectory and evaluates driver vigilance at speeds above 70km/h.
By identifying deviations relative to the road markings, the all-new Peugeot 2008 SUV can determine if the vehicle's behaviour reflects driver drowsiness or inattention.
If it is determined that driver needs to take more care, visual and audible alerts are used to gain attention, with the recommendation for the driver to take a break.
In addition, the system further calculates driver attention and triggers an alert when the car has been driven for more than two hours at speeds above 70km/h.
When that happens, a message is displayed on the instrument panel and an audible warning sounded, both recommending that a break is taken.
Active Lane Keeping Assist (LKA)
This system monitors the road's longitudinal lane markings. If a deviation is detected taking the car out of its lane, a flashing light is activated on the digital instrument panel to warn drivers.
Additionally, whenever the system identifies a risk of accidentally crossing a lane marking at speeds above 70km/h, the steering gradually corrects itself to keep the vehicle in its designated lane.
Visio Park
All-new Peugeot 2008 SUV is fitted with a 180-degree rear camera to display its immediate environment on the central display screen.
Aided by the car's parking assistance sensors, and in conjunction with the steering system, multiple camera views of the environment behind the vehicle are displayed in real time as it is being manoeuvred into a parking spot.
This visual representation makes parking easier because it displays any nearby obstacles.
UNCOMPROMISED RIDE AND HANDLING
Chassis and suspension
All-new Peugeot 2008 SUV is built on the latest generation of Peugeot's new and efficient Common Modular Platform (CMP), the new base for the company's compact B-segment vehicles, entry-level and mid-range C-segment cars and compact SUVs.
This platform, which also underpins the 2008 SUV's stablemate, the 208 hatchback, allows the easy use of battery-electric, hybrid and internal combustion engine drivetrains within the same vehicle family and across model ranges.
CMP has been designed to limit CO2 emissions by leveraging all of the factors that contribute to lower fuel consumption.
These include such areas as weight reduction and aerodynamics.
Comparative vehicle weight has been reduced through the use of high-performance materials including advanced and ultra-high-strength steel (AHSS and UHSS), press-hardened steel, aluminium and composites.
Aerodynamic improvements have been achieved through the use of a smoother underbody design and controlled front-end air intake systems, both methods lowering fuel consumption and reducing CO2 emissions.
Suspension
Using a front, transverse engine and front-wheel-drive layout, all-new Peugeot 2008 SUV features a contemporary suspension design configured to meet a variety of driving situations without having to be compromised, ensuring it will satisfy drivers and passengers alike.
For drivers that means handling agility and good road 'feel' without sacrificing comfort while for passengers it means a comfortable ride every time on every road surface.
To achieve those goals Peugeot's engineers chose an independent pseudo-MacPherson strut design with coil springs, telescopic, gas-filled dampers and an anti-roll bar for the front of the car.
At the rear a torsion bar located by coil springs and hydraulic double-acting dampers serves as a deformable crossmember to ensure a smooth ride while delivering excellent roadholding, at the same time giving the all-new Peugeot 2008 SUV the ability to cope with a cargo area laden for weekend adventures.
Steering
All-new Peugeot 2008 SUV is fitted with electrically assisted rack and pinion steering which has been designed to give road feel without undue heaviness, adding to its driving enjoyment in both the urban environment and on the open road.
The all-new Peugeot 2008 SUV has a turning circle of just 10.4 metres.
