Peugeot's 308 GTi 270 has lead the 25th running of the annual Targa Tasmania road rally taking on duties as the zero, or lead, vehicle for the 2000km event.
Driven by multiple Tasmanian Rally Champion and veteran of Targa Tasmania David Waldon, the 308 GTi impressed across the entire event – including all competitive stages.
The 308 GTi was developed by Peugeot Sport, Peugeot's in house race and rally team, and boasts one of the highest power-to-weight ratios of any series production vehicle at 165kW of power per tonne (or 6kg per kilowatt), while featuring race inspired brakes larger than that found on more powerful and heavier vehicles.
David Waldon said the GTi impressed with its power, composure and stopping abilities following his 2000km drive, whilst remaining comfortable and confidence-inspiring.
"I've driven many vehicles in tarmac rally events, and for a vehicle straight off the showroom floor, the 308 GTi is a very impressive machine – its dynamic abilities are second only to its impressive brake package, " said Waldon.
"The biggest challenge we had behind the wheel of the 308 GTi was remaining faithful to our task rather than being tempted to go quicker – it was so enjoyable to drive, it encouraged you to press on." Said Waldon.
More than just a badge and alloy wheels, the 308 GTi has been extensively developed by Peugeot Sport, who boast a wealth of expertise developing high-performance road and race cars.
Underpinning the GTi are two proven high-output 1.6-litre THP petrol engines, depending on the model, with 184kW (250hp) in the GTi 250 and 200kW (270hp) in the GTi 270, both paired exclusively to a six-speed manual transmission.
Peugeot's latest hot hatch is encased in a modern exterior style that takes the marque's now-familiar design philosophy and adds a touch of aggression.
Inside the Peugeot i-Cockpit cabin has been enhanced to reflect the sporting nature of the car, with additional detailing to signify this performance flagship.
The top of the line 308 GTi 270 and its additional mechanical upgrades give the vehicle an extra edge when put to use on track.
These upgrades include; enhanced engine, upgraded front braking package, co-developed with Alcon, a Torsen Limited-Slip Differential and lightweight 19-inch alloy wheels, all of which are complimented by styling differentiation from the GTi 250.
