In a move certain to win this highly successful and charismatic hatchback yet more fans, Peugeot has utilised the latest multiplexing technology to introduce a host of new electronic features to the 206.
Now available with sophisticated equipment first seen on the executive 607, new 307 and stylish 406, and with specification enhancements across the range, the Peugeot 206 is now even better than ever.
Multiplexing – new technology for a new generation of vehicles
Peugeot has introduced multiplexing into the 206-model lineup. This significant advance in new technology provides for all the electronic control units in a car to be managed by its central computer, dramatically reducing the amount of wiring needed, without reducing functionality. In fact, multiplexing also gives an increased number of electronic functions, and enables additional features to be added at a later date, without the need for complicated re-wiring. Fewer individual connections lead to increased reliability, while the removal of wiring leads to a reduction in the car's overall weight.
Safety and security
The Peugeot 206 is now offered with safety and security features rarely found in cars in this sector. The introduction of multiplexing means that a number of features become 'standard' on all models, including 'self-thinking' SMART airbags that respond according to the force of an impact; doors which automatically unlock in the event of an accident; door ajar warning light; car location device via the remote locking key; and a separate digital display for the radio. In the event of emergency braking, the hazard lights are now automatically activated.
'Executive' car specification for even greater appeal
In addition, internal central locking and a trip computer become standard, as does a radio 'stalk' control which allows the driver to operate the radio without taking his or her hands off the steering wheel. For the 206 XT and GTi models, further improvements feature headlights which illuminate automatically as light fades, and windscreen wipers which switch themselves on when they sense rain.
In addition to the new standard electronic features introduced through multiplexing, the specification of every model has been enhanced. In-car entertainment has been upgraded across the range, and almost all 206s now have external temperature gauges and illuminated gloveboxes.
The Peugeot 206 range features a choice of cars to appeal to a wide cross-section of motorists, from those looking for a well-equipped hatchback that's fun to drive, to those wanting the renowned performance of the GTi or the chic style and sophistication of the Coupé Cabriolet.
Prices for the Peugeot 206 start at $20,990 for the entry-level 206 XR. All cars come with two years of warranty cover and Peugeot Roadside Assistance.
