The latest iteration of Narva’s market-leading Ultima LED Driving Light range, the Ultima 215 MK3 has arrived, delivering up to 30 per cent more effective output over the preceding MK2 along with even better durability, control, customisation options and much more. The added performance holds true to the product’s development objective of ‘Lighting Beyond’.
Narva’s MK2 lamps were already acknowledged as Australia’s best hybrid beam pattern driving lights, and the new MK3 builds on this legacy with an all-new spot beam pattern that delivers over 1,400m (and over 1,200m for hybrid beam) of forward distance per pair of lamps. Coupled with this impressive light penetration is beam spread of up to 92m, ensuring improved hazard detection for safer nighttime driving.
The spot beam also features a significantly wider beam width than most other driving lights. However, when compared to the hybrid beam, a deliberate width reduction of 12m allows less light on road signs, to minimise unwanted road sign flare.
In achieving their impressive performance – which also includes output of up to 20,157 effective Lumens per lamp – Narva engineers developed and tested 60 different LED and optic pairings before settling on the final combination, which includes high performing 10W Cree LEDs. And to ensure these met expectations, they were extensively tested in Narva’s Melbourne NATA-approved photometric light lab as well as in on and off-road real-world operation.
Narva Senior Brand Manager, James Pearson, said Narva was excited to launch the new range, and there was no doubt the Ultima MK3 would set new benchmarks for its product category.
“The original Ultima lamps revolutionised the LED driving lamp market, delivering superior light output, reliability and durability to what was available at the time,” James said.
“The lamps found favour across a wide scope of applications including recreational four-wheel-driving, competitive off-road racing, commercial transport and other industries. This latest offering takes the performance of the original Ultima MK1 and subsequent MK2 lamps to an impressive new level.”
Increased durability and customisation
In developing MK3, Narva placed just as much importance on lamp durability as it did on output, so ingress protection was upgraded (over MK2) to the maximum IP68 and IP69K. Another improvement over is a change from an integrated DT connector to an overmolded Deutsch® connector on a heavy-duty flying lead. This makes the lights easier to install, especially on bullbars that have less space behind the lamps. Also included are heavy-duty stainless steel mounting brackets as well as a wiring harness when lamps are purchased as a pair.
The original Ultima range pioneered lamp customisation and the new MK3 line-up offers even more options. All lamps come with either Satin bezel (Single Lamp) or Black bezels (Pairs) and Narva blue (Satin bezel) or Electric blue (Black bezel) trims. However, for no extra charge, customers can redeem their choice of bezels and trims. This eliminates waste and increases customer choice, no matter what the lamp. There are now seven different trim options and two bezels meaning 14 different looks.
For protection and to provide further scope for buyers to create the right look for their vehicle, all lamps are provided with Narva’s proven hard-coated polycarbonate clear lens protectors. Customers can redeem their choice of either black tinted lens protectors (two different graphic designs to choose from) or Selective Yellow lens protectors, and just like the bezels/trims, at no extra cost.
Selective Yellow is ideal for poor conditions (dust, fog and haze) and reduces road sign flare and eye fatigue on longer trips. While amber lens covers are not new, Narva’s Selective Yellow covers differ in that they minimise loss of light output; typically, amber lens covers reduce effective lumens by 20 per cent or more – the Ultima Selective Yellow covers only reduce effective output by as little as 10 per cent.
Complete control
The new Ultima MK3 LED Driving Lights (along with the Ultima LED Light Bar range) also feature Connect+ technology. Using the Connect+ Controller which is available at extra cost, owners can adjust the beam shape and intensity of their light output to suit their environment and driving conditions and even adjust two light groups independently.
The controller offers further lighting adjustment with three preset, customisable driving modes. For highway driving, the beam can be set for maximum distance with less spread to avoid road sign flare. On 4WD tracks, distance can be reduced with a focus on maximum spread, while for more open dirt roads, all the light can be set to its maximum output. There’s also a boost mode that delivers 15 per cent more power for 30 seconds, and with its LIN Bus technology, acts as a single point of control for all Ultima Connect+ enabled products.
Transport Kit – convenience in a bundle
Along with serving the needs of the off-road and off-highway markets, another key sector for the Ultima MK3 LED Driving Lights is the transport industry, leading Narva to develop its ‘Transport Kit’.
The Transport Kit offers prospective buyers the convenience and cost effectiveness of getting all the equipment they need to get the very best from the Ultima MK3 Driving Lamps in a single package. The kit includes two hybrid beam lamps, two spot beam lamps, four clear lens protectors and four Selective Yellow lens protectors. Also included is the Ultima ‘Smart’ Transport Harness, which is designed specifically for large trucks when four lamps are installed.
The harness uses heavy gauge wiring and midi fuses, to ensure safety and maximum performance. The entire kit is wired through the supplied Connect+ Controller, giving the driver comprehensive control. The Ultima Smart Transport Harness also provides a significant reduction in installation time and costs.
Market-leading warranty
Given the heavy-duty construction and reliable LED circuitry featured in the new Ultima MK3 product line, Narva is backing the range with Australia’s first Lifetime ‘No Fault’* Warranty on LED Driving Lights.
The ‘No Fault’ portion of the warranty means the user is not only covered for manufacturing defects, but they are also covered for damage due to impact, UV or chemicals. This means that the buyer can be assured of a lifetime of use from their investment.
Narva’s Ultima MK3 215 are available as a single lamp (hybrid or spot pattern) for a RRP of $700.00 each; as a hybrid driving kit pair (including harness) for a RRP of 1,450.00 while the Transport Kits (including 4 lamps, harness and Connect+ Controller) costs $3,700.00 RRP.
Additionally, Narva offers harnesses that can be purchased individually. These include a 12V harness to suit and 215 models (for two lamps) at a price of $320.00; the 12V truck harness suitable for four lamps at a RRP of $500.00 and the 12/24V Smart truck harness that’s also suitable for four lamps for $500.00. The clever Ultima Connect+ Controller is also available separately at a RRP of $219.00.
The new Ultima MK3 range can be purchased from leading automotive, four-wheel drive and transportation outlets nationwide.
*Defects are subject to refund or replacement. Damage due to impact, UV or chemicals is subject to a full lamp replacement.
