• Rare and collectible Aust. Delivery 'manual' Honda NSX
  • Four 90s Japanese Sports Coupes
  • Four performance BMW 'M' models

Astute buyers are eyeing some great performance car opportunities at Shannons Winter Timed Online Auction for which bidding closes progressively tomorrow evening (August 26) from 7pm.

Japanese performances car enthusiasts have four highly collectible vehicles on offer – headed by a now-rare and highly sought-after manual transmission Australian-delivered 1991 Honda NSX Coupe.

Developed with considerable input from then-McLaren-Honda Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna, the NSX was a showcase of Honda's high performance engineering in its era, with examples winning the first two Targa Tasmania tarmac rallies in 1992 and 1993, while three time F1 World Champion Sir Jack Brabham was also a big fan of the mid-engined 3.0 litre V6-engined, rear wheel drive coupe.

With values rising rapidly on the global collector market, the red, two-owner, 5-speed manual coupe with its all-aluminium bodywork and just 99,005km showing on its odometer (at the time of cataloguing), is conservatively expected to sell in the $100,000 - $125,000 range and is already on the market with a high bid to date of $100,500.

Another Australian-delivered Japanese performance 'hero' from the same era is a stunning and very rare 1991 Mitsubishi 3000GT 'Manual' Coupe offered in superb condition.

Increasingly popular in recent years with the Japanese street-car movement and with its odometer showing just 103,402km (at time of cataloguing), the car being auctioned is in factory-stock specification, it is expected to sell in the $34,000 - $42,000 range.

Finally, Japanese enthusiasts have the choice of two, four wheel drive Toyota Celica GT4 Group A Rallye coupes – a 1991 'Carlos Sainz edition' (build #67) and a 1994 model (build #24).

The 1991 coupe is one of the 150 Group A Rallye Celicas built for the Australian market and has benefited from considerable mechanical work.  Offered with 'no reserve' it is expected to sell in the $18,000-$24,000 range

The 1994 model GT-Four Group A Rallye Celica is one of just 77 of these 'homologation' cars in the ST-205 body shape to come to Australia and is offered in very good, unmodified condition. It is expected to sell in the $35,000-$45,000 range.

BMW 'M' enthusiasts are treated to a selection of four sought-after Motorsport focussed models, headed by a fabulous right hand drive converted first generation 1988 E30 M3 Coupe with Evo 3 upgrades.

This well-known and extensively refurbished M3 is expected to sell in the $75,000 - $90,000 range.

Alternatively there is range of high-performance six cylinder BMW M  models – a rare and very collectible 1985 BMW M635CSi (M6) Coupe powered by the 286bhp 24-valve M88 straight six, that also comes with a large history file ($54,000 - $62,000) and a lovely, Australian-delivered 1986 BMW M535i saloon equipped with the 3.5Lt six cylinder engine mated to a Getrag close ratio dogleg five-speed manual gearbox, plus has the firmer M-Technic driver-oriented suspension, a limited slip differential and a factory sports body kit.

Then, there is the ultimate German 'Q' car – a 1990 BMW M5 E34 saloon in largely original condition that has covered a low 130,454 kilometres since new ($44,000 - $52,000).

Note: The Sydney Auction showroom has re-opened under reduced hours of 10am-4pm, Monday – Friday; the Melbourne Auction showroom is closed due to Stage 4 restrictions.
