The late Peter Brock's 1974 Australian Touring Car Championship-winning Torana GTR XU-1 the pin-up boy of the iconic Australian Muscle Cars in Shannons upcoming Timed, Online Winter Auction from August 2-9.

Arguably Australia's most famous  racing Touring Car, this Holden Dealer Team GTR XU-1 was raced by Peter Brock in the 1973 season, finishing second at Bathurst after it famously ran out of fuel and had to be pushed up pitlane by co-driver Doug Chivas.

It went on to win the Manufacturer's Championship that year, before winning the South Pacific Touring Car Series in early 1974 and then wrapping up the 1974 Australian Touring Car title.

Built by HDT Chief Mechanic Ian Tate and team boss Harry Firth, the Torana then disappeared from sight after it was replaced by the Torana SLR/5000
in late 1974, but was rediscovered in the early-'90s, sitting abandoned on a nature strip in Dandenong , where it had been for a decade.

The famous Torana racer was bought by Tate's son Paul and a thorough restoration was then undertaken, around the original shell, with the Tates estimating that around 95 per cent of the restored XU-1is still the original car, including its aluminium roll cage, bodyshell and even its custom made Webber carburettors.

In 2006 the XU-1 was purchased by t the current vendor and today sits on Globe Sprintmaster custom-made alloy wheels , while it retains its other period racing features.

Offered in excellent condition throughout, complete with its original CAMS Log Book, history notes, race results, some photos of its restoration and various magazine articles over the years, the Torana today is a  very important part of Australian motor sport history and a significant car in Peter Brock's career.

It is expected to appeal to Holden and Brock collectors alike and sell in the $900,000-$1.2 million range.

Peter Brock's influence extended to two other Holdens in the Shannons Winter Online Auction.

His legacy also lives on in a  1985 Holden HDT VK SS Group A Group 3 Brock Commodore Sedan, the 41st of just 50 Group A / Group 3 models built

One of the most desirable of what colloquially has become known as the 'Blue Meanie' Commodores, the VK-model SS Group A was available in any colour you like as long as it was Formula Blue. These were built to homologate the Commodore for global Group A Touring Car regulations.

There's just the smallest amount of wear to this car's almost 40-year-old interior, not surprising given it's covered a low indicated 33,315km (at the time of cataloguing –thought genuine).

Outside, the Formula Blue paint has been refreshed at some stage together with its contrasting black exterior trim and so it presents very well.

Fitted with silver Momo 5 star wheels and the optional 5 speed gearbox and with so few kilometres on the clock, this Blue Meanie will be hot property among the many devoted HDT collectors, and is expected to bring $200,000-$300,000.

Finally for Brock devotees, there is a red 2005 Holden VZ SS 'Brock Group 2' Utility presented in excellent condition that is expected to sell in the $75,000-$95,000 range.
