The loosening of Covid-19 restrictions will provide us with the perfect opportunity to tour Australia and support bushfire-ravaged communities. And what better style to do this in this era of cheap petrol than behind the wheel of a classic American cruiser, with Shannons offering a broad and diverse selection in its Online Classic Auction from May 20-June 3.
Sought-after soft-tops in the auction include an exceptional 1965 Corvette Stingray Convertible equipped with the optional L79 327/350 horsepower V8, mated to a four-speed manual transmission ($80,000-$100,000) a smart-looking red 1966 Ford Mustang Convertible ($30,000-$35,000) and a neat and very desirable left hand drive 1957 Ford Thunderbird 312ci V8 Convertible ($60,000-$70,000).
Finished in its original colours of Milano Maroon with a matching interior and fitted with the optional factory side pipes, the all-matching numbers Stingray arrived in Australia 11 years ago and currently belongs to a former president of the NSW Corvette Club, who was attracted by the L79's combination of top performance spec, its originality and its outstanding condition.
Considered the most collectible of the early Ford Thunderbirds is a very desirable 1957 model 312ci V8 Convertible that comes complete with the model's signature 'porthole' lift-off hardtop and rear spats.
Still left-hand drive, the T-Bird is ready for more love, with some straightforward interior TLC expected to further enhance its value above its expected $60,000 - $70,000 selling range.
When it comes to American Muscle Car value, it's hard to go past the fantastic 1972 Plymouth Barracuda 340 V8 Coupe in the auction.
Although the car is the epitome of American muscle cars of the early '70s, with road presence and performance to burn, Plymouth Barracudas are rarely seen in Australia, adding rarity to the left-hand-drive model on offer.
Presented in burnished gold metallic paintwork, with a period black vinyl roof, factory sports wheels and black vinyl interior, the Barracuda is a nice example of an E-body American muscle car and is realistically priced in the $25,000 - $30,000 range, making it potentially great buying!
Stepping back in time, there are two fabulous vintage American cars in the auction.
If you really want to stand apart from the crowd, the left hand drive 1933 Cadillac V12 370C 7-Seater Sedan is the way to go.
In factory condition throughout and one of just 953 of these V-12 limousines built in 1933 the Cadillac is a rare car globally – believed to be one of the few examples in Australia – and has all the presence and glamour of a by-gone era.
Believed to have been in the one American family's ownership from new, the Cadillac has the patina of an unrestored, but cared-for car of its age. It is now deserving of some TLC from an enthusiastic new owner at its predicted selling price of $100,000-$120,000.
Another fabulous club car in the auction is a beautifully-restored 1924 McLaughlin Buick Master Six 6 Tourer featuring a desirable factory Seven-Passenger Open Tourer body,
The current owners purchased the Buick from Shannons' Melbourne Spring auction in 2017 and immediately set about making the car reliable for use in their country pub for tours to local wineries.
Attractively finished in dark blue with gold pinstripes, offset with orange wheels, it is expected to sell in the $50,000-$60,000 when bidding closes on June 3.
