The 2018 Moto Expo at Melbourne Showgrounds will host the world-wide unveiling of a new breed of café racer style electric motorcycles invented by 26-year-old Melbourne man Dennis Savic.
The young Australian entrepreneur designed the new concept electric motorcycle to address pollution issues and to capitalise on the exponential growth of electric vehicles at global scale.
Savic Motorcycles will be the first electric motorcycle company in Australia. Manufacturing will take place in both, Melbourne and Taiwan, with assembly taking place in Melbourne
The first product line that Savic Motorcycles will take to market is the C-Series - a Café Racer inspired design, of which the prototype will be unveiled at Moto Expo.
Savic Motorcycles inventor and founder Dennis Savic said 650 hours had gone into the designing and building the prototype.
"These motorcycles are unique offering with the most advanced features and functionality that the materials engineering, electronic controls, electrical technology and 3D manufacturing can offer today," Savic said.
"We have created a unique design featuring a perfectly rolled (not bent) backbone frame and developed our own powertrain package. Our 5-10 production prototypes that will start manufacture in the coming months feature a fully integrated, stressed, liquid cooled, motor and energy storage system."
"Depending on the model and battery pack a customer selects, a single charge can provide up to 11kWh costing only $3 as opposed to $15 for a petrol bike to travel 250 kms. Savic Motorcycles torque and power will be instantaneous with the bikes going from 0 to 100 kms in 4 seconds."
"We will focus on sales and production first in Australia, then take the offering to international markets. Our aim is to close our second round of funding by February 2019, build 10 C-FE (founder edition) models for our first 10 customers, and collect 50-100 production orders for 2020," added.
The three models that we intend to take to production for 2020 include the Alpha (60kW, from $20,000), Delta (40kW, from $15,000) and the Omega (20kW, from $12,000). Each model comes with several battery pack options. Largest pack size offered in the Alpha will provide a range up to 250km, while the smallest option in the Omega will have a range of 50km.
Personalisation will be key with each vehicle coming in a range of options for brakes, suspension, wheels, tires and choice of three colours - Spectre, Stealth, and Rustic. Aftermarket upgrades will also be offered.
Troy Bayliss Events Managing Director Mark Petersen said it was a huge coup for the event to be chosen as the launch for global unveil.
"Electric bikes are becoming part of many manufacturers everyday current releases," Petersen said.
"Big road bikes, small dirt bikes and everything in between. Even Moto E begins racing next year.
"It is great to see what Dennis has created, he should be very proud. Visitors to the show will be able to not only view the bike but also meet and talk with the creator himself," Petersen added.
The prototype will be unveiled at 12.10pm (note to martine: would you mind just confirming this time with mark and letting me know?) on Friday 23 November as part of Moto Expo's media walk.
Showcasing the latest motorcycles, scooters, ATV'S, side-by-sides and much more the 2018 Moto Expo will also give visitors the opportunity to engage with industry experts, test ride a range of both adults and children's motorcycles as well as be entertained by a full program of demonstrations, stunts, and special features.
