Mazda has officially welcomed the Brand-New Mazda CX-8 Diesel into it's now nine-strong family of award-winning vehicles, with the SUV on sale from July 1 2018.

Sitting between the Mazda CX-5 and the Mazda CX-9 on the sizing scale, the middle kid is a value-packed seven-seat option, ideal for growing families looking to pair their need for fuel efficiency, space and safety, with their desire for style and quality.

Equipped with the advanced 2.2L SKYACTIV-D twin-turbo diesel engine, the Brand-New Mazda CX-8 Diesel gives a maximum of 140kW of power at 4,500rpm and a huge 450Nm of torque at 2,000rpm.

Incorporating the latest SKYACTIV technologies, the diesel-only SUV has an impressively high combustion ratio of 14.5:1, achieved thanks to a new variable geometry turbocharger, ultra-high response Piezo injectors and a stepped egg-profile combustion chamber.

The many SKYACTIV technologies at play help Brand-New Mazda CX-8 Diesel to achieve best-in-class combined fuel consumption of 5.7L/100km for the Sport FWD variant, and 6.0L/100km for the Sport and Asaki AWD variants.

With a smaller stature than the traditional seven-seat SUV, Brand-New Mazda CX-8 Diesel offers nimble handling and manoeuvrability, without compromising on cabin space or comfort for occupants in all three rows.

The easy-to-handle body is shorter and narrower than the Mazda CX-9, with which it shares its wheelbase, and is the same width as Australia's favourite SUV, the Mazda CX-5.

With these more compact dimensions, Mazda's human-centred design approach was key to creating a refined and spacious cabin environment that is both comfortable and functional.

A concerted effort was made to achieve natural seating posture for all occupants; a person of any size could find an ideal driving position, be comfortable in the passenger seat, enjoy roomy comfort in the second row, and passengers up to 170cm tall can find a relaxed seating position in the third row.

Convenience of entry, exit, loading and unloading is essential for large SUV buyers, and was a major consideration in the Brand-New CX-8 Diesel's development.

The SUV offers wide rear doors that open out to an impressive 80 degrees from the body, and with a simple pull of a high-mounted lever on the second row, the back rest folds and the seat slides forward to allow extra space for easy access in and out of the third row.

Cabin storage is plentiful for all three rows, and luggage storage in the back is a generous 209 litres (VDA) when all three rows are in use. With the third row down, storage increases to 742 litres (VDA) and to an enormous 1,727 litres (VDA) when the second row is laid flat. There is also a sub-boot with an additional 33 litres of underfloor storage.

Mazda has applied a comprehensive list of i-ACTIVESENSE safety features as standard to the Brand-New Mazda CX-8 Diesel, offering drivers and passengers the best technology available, along with a reassuring peace of mind.

Standard features include Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM), High Beam Control (HBC), Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA), Lane-keep Assist System (LAS), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC) with Stop & Go function, Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Smart City Brake Support [Forward/Reverse] (SCBS F/R), Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR), reverse camera and rear parking sensors.

Asaki adds even more safety equipment, including Mazda's new 360° View Monitor, front parking sensors, Adaptive LED Headlamps (ALH) and advanced keyless entry.

A number of designed-in, passive safety features further strengthen Brand-New Mazda CX-8 Diesel's credentials, including a high-strength SKYACTIV-Body, which effectively absorbs and disperses impact forces from the front, sides and rear to suppress cabin deformation in the event of an accident.

Damping in the body and the SKYACTIV-Chassis also promote reassuring handling and a defined sense of stability for drivers and passengers alike, with significant NVH measures in place to reduce unwanted noise and maximise conversation clarity.

Skilfully blending functionality and practicality with beauty, Brand-New Mazda CX-8 Diesel boasts an elegant form that is both timeless and edgy, showcasing a maturing in Mazda's KODO design language.

Fitting seamlessly into Mazda's existing lineup, Brand-New Mazda CX-8 Diesel has a powerful road presence, with strong horizontal lines characterising the front face. Piano black garnishes and chrome-plated mouldings enhance this expression, adding a touch of refinement and elegance to the overall form.

The interior design mirrors the quality feel of the exterior, with premium materials used to create a cosy but sophisticated atmosphere.

Brand-New Mazda CX-8 Diesel introduces a new colour pallet, with deep red tones introduced through sumptuous Dark Russet nappa leather on the Asaki, while Sport offers black cloth with the same dark red hues weaved into the material.

Asaki is also offered with Pure White nappa leather and adds real wood trim to the instrument and door panels for added warmth and elegance, befitting of a top spec model.

Further emphasising its refinement, Asaki adds a host of special features and creature comforts and new technologies, including rear-door window blinds for sun protection and privacy, plus a 10 speaker Bose Sound System. In a first for Mazda, Asaki also introduces an integrated heated steering wheel that quickly warms the rim's hand grip for safer, more comfortable operation on cold days.

Brand-New Mazda CX-8 Diesel is available in two model grades, Sport and Asaki, across two drivetrains, FWD and AWD.

Brand-New Mazda CX-8 Diesel is offered in seven contemporary colours, including Soul Red Crystal Metallic, Titanium Flash Mica, Sonic Silver Mica, Deep Crystal Blue Mica, Jet Black Mica, Snowflake White Pearl and Machine Grey Metallic.

The value-packed SUV starts from $42,490* for the entry level Sport FWD. The Sport AWD variant will retail from $46,490*, while the Asaki will start at $61,490*.

Managing Director of Mazda Australia, Vinesh Bhindi, said the Brand-New Mazda CX-8 Diesel is a compelling proposition for families needing space and economy, but wanting style and quality.

"In our belief that the car is more than a mass of metal, Brand-New Mazda CX-8 Diesel packages the functional elements that families are looking for, with the style and quality that they aspire to," said Mr Bhindi.
