- 4,800 new MGs have just arrived on Australian shores aboard a single ship, the first time the marque has filled an entire car carrier's manifest with its vehicles
- MG Motor capitalises on growing customer and dealer network demand to cement its position as a top-ten automotive company in Australia
15 July 2021, Sydney: In the early dawn light of 13 July, the Panamanian-registered car carrier Primrose Ace docked at berth 107 in Port Kembla, south of Sydney, with a very special cargo on board.
Packed with more than 4,800 new MG Motor vehicles, including the award-winning compact SUV, the ZST, and Australia's best-selling light hatchback, the MG3, the arrival represents the first time that MG Motor Australia has filled an entire ship's manifest with its vehicles.
The mass arrival of MG Motor vehicles represents part of a larger allocation of approximately 11,000 new MGs that have arrived in Australia since June 2021.
As reported in FCAI's June VFACTS report, MG Motor sold 4,303 vehicles nationwide last month, representing an almost 220 percent increase compared to the same month last year.
MG Motor has consolidated its position as a top-ten automotive business during the first half of 2021 thanks to an expanded product line-up that offers customers the best in driver safety, great value and enhanced technology features.
"Australian new car buyers appreciate value and choice, and we are grateful for our customers' continued support," said Peter Ciao, CEO of MG Motor Australia and New Zealand.
While it is normal practice for car carriers to fill holds with products from a variety of manufacturers before sailing to Australia, the Primrose Ace sailed directly from Shanghai Harbour in late June, packed with a variety of MG vehicles bound for local dealerships.
The Primrose Ace's payload is almost equal to the number of vehicles that MG Motor sold in the first six months of 2020.
The 200m-plus long vessel spent two days loading its precious cargo before setting sail, docking briefly in Brisbane before dispatching its first batch of cars at Port Kembla, south of Sydney. It sailed again just 18 hours later, on its way to Melbourne to unload more MGs.
The manifest includes the award-winning ZST small SUV and fresh stocks of Australia's best-selling small car, the MG 3, as well as the HS medium SUV.
A brace of MG's New Energy vehicles, including Australia's most affordable electric vehicle, the ZS EV, and the versatile, value-packed HS Plug-In Hybrid, will also roll off the 17,000-tonne car carrier.
