Engine and Drivetrain
Standard across all models of the All-New D-MAX is the new 4JJ3-TCX 3-litre, turbo-diesel engine, a derivative of the famed 4JJ1-TC that powered the previous-generation D-MAX. Power and torque outputs have been increased to 140kW at 3,600rpm and 450Nm at 1,600-2,600rpm—a 10kW and 20Nm improvement over the preceding engine—respectively. More importantly, midrange torque has been improved, with a hearty 400Nm on tap from 1,400rpm through to 3,250rpm, resulting in improvements to both drivability and performance, particularly when towing or under load. Impressively, 300Nm is produced at just 1,000rpm—testament to how torque-efficient the 4JJ3-TCX is.
Not only have Isuzu Engineers pumped the engine's numbers, they've made it more thermally efficient through the reduction of internal friction and exhaust emissions. Depending on the D-MAX model, fuel consumption figures return 7.7-8.0-litres/100km, during ADR 81/02 combined cycle testing.
Comprising of a new engine block, cylinder-head, crankshaft and lightweight aluminium pistons, the 4JJ3-TCX breathes through a new intake system that feeds the new electronically controlled Variable Geometry System (VGS) Turbocharger, which has been heavily revised to reduce turbo-lag—improving throttle-response, efficiency and longevity. Mounted on the back of the VGS Turbocharger is Isuzu's tried and proven Diesel Particulate Diffuser (DPD), which has been further revised to increase efficiency and reduce exhaust emissions. Further weight savings and efficiencies have been made with the new exhaust pipe and muffler, which weighs in at 8.6kg—26% less than the preceding D-MAX.
Fuel delivery is precisely controlled by a new high-pressure direct injection fuel system. A new fuel pump pressurises diesel fuel to over 250MPa before it is atomized by new high-efficiency injectors—precisely spraying diesel fuel into the newly-engineered combustion chamber of each cylinder. New lightweight aluminium pistons have been heavily-optimised with a tapered and wider combustion chamber. Engine thermal efficiency has been further improved through the reduction of friction and heat dispersion, with the new aluminium piston crowns, skirts and gudgeon pins treated with anti-friction diamond-like carbon heat insulation. Keeping the new pistons in time with the valve-train is a robust, maintenance-free stainless-steel timing chain, which is now directed by a quieter, more efficient, double scissor idle gear set—that improves durability and dramatically diminishes engine rattle and vibrations.
Power and torque is transferred to the wheels via either Isuzu's MVL-6S 6-speed manual transmission or an Aisin-built AWE6B45 II 6-Speed automatic transmission. The 6-speed manual transmission features a pull ring selector, allowing the driver to precisely select reverse with a more fluid motion and shift accuracy. Gear engagements are snappier, crisper and more enjoyable, with an optimised pivot point and shorter selector throw. A new dual-mass flywheel absorbs vibrations and torque pulses from the engine for smoother and more efficient drivability and transmission longevity. The 6-speed automatic transmission has seen further optimisation—improving on transmission efficiency, shifting speed and operating temperature regulation with a new Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) warmer and cooler and new pan design for improved ATF longevity. Gear shifts are smoother, more efficient and quicker than the preceding model, with an improvement of up to 0.2 sec in shift time between gears, with a more intuitive selection.
4x4 D-MAX models further benefit from a revised 4x4 transfer case with a new electronic actuator, that speeds up the shift from 2-High to 4-High at speeds of up to 100km/h in less than a second. Switching from 4-High to 4-Low also takes just under a second, a huge improvement over the preceding system that took 2.5 seconds to engage. Transferring drive from the transmission to the rear differential is a new, one-piece aluminium tailshaft. Lighter than traditional steel tailshafts, the use of aluminium boasts a significantly higher strength-to-weight ratio and allows the powertrain to be more efficient through lowering rotational mass, which also improves response, harmonics, durability and performance. Pound for pound, an aluminium tailshaft is stronger, lighter and more corrosive resistant in comparison with traditional mild-steel tailshafts.
Driven directly by customer and media feedback, the All-New D-MAX now features a rear electromagnetic locking differential (rear diff-lock). Drivers can engage the rear diff-lock at a push of a button, distributing torque evenly across both rear wheels to give the All-New D-MAX supreme drive and traction when off-road.
Front wheel hubs now benefit from maintenance-free sealed wheel bearings, which decrease operational friction and rolling resistance compared with conventional roller bearings. More cost effective to maintain, these wheel bearings provide significant cost savings during scheduled services, requiring no maintenance or re-greasing.
Safety comes standard - Isuzu's Intelligent Driver Assistance System (IDAS)
Standard across the All-New Isuzu D-MAX range is Isuzu's Intelligent Driver Assistance System (IDAS); a suite of comprehensive safety and convenience features that complement the driver and dramatically improves the level of safety for all occupants, pedestrians, cyclists and other road users. IDAS encompasses the All-New D-MAX's main driving systems, combining Active Safety, Passive Safety and Driver Assistance technology into one complete package.
With a suite of standardised active safety features previously unseen in a ute, the All-New Isuzu D-MAX represents the pinnacle of safety in the ute category.
At the heart of IDAS is a Hitachi 3D Stereo Camera, a binocular camera system so advanced it can precisely detect and measure distance, size, velocity and depth of vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists and other potential obstacles around the D-MAX. With a three-fold wider field-of-view than conventional monocular systems, this 3D camera system enables the D-MAX to detect more subjects with a lower risk of miss-detection and take the necessary countermeasures or precautions to mitigate or entirely prevent any incident.
Engineered for Australian conditions, IDAS has seen some extensive localised testing, which has enabled Isuzu engineers to finely calibrate the Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) for Australian roads. TSR automatically scans the road ahead for traffic and speed signs—including overhead and digital speed signs—relaying the speed zone up ahead to the driver via the 4.2" Multi-Information Display (MID). If the Intelligent Speed Limiter (ISL) is currently active, that speed zone will automatically reset the ISL to that speed limit.
The All-New D-MAX range now features Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) with Turn Assist, combined with Forward Collision Warning (FCW) to alert the driver before effectively applying the brakes to bring the vehicle to a complete stop—mitigating the severity of a potential impact, or avoiding it entirely. The Turn Assist functionality will intervene with similar effect, if it detects that the driver is crossing the path of another incoming vehicle. Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with stop-and-go traffic functionality (AT only) employs the same system to assist the driver to accelerate, slow-down and maintain a designated vehicle speed and a pre-designated distance from the vehicle ahead.
Studies show that the majority of multi-vehicle incidents occur during bumper to bumper traffic conditions. Misacceleration Mitigation (MAM) is standard across Automatic models and prevents the driver from unintentionally driving into the vehicle in front during slow speed situations, of up to 10km/h. If an incident occurs, the Post-Collision Braking (PCB), automatically applies brake force to slow the D-MAX to a stop, reducing the severity of a subsequent collision.
Similar studies also indicate that around 25 percent of all serious motorway incidents originate from driver distraction, drowsiness or inattentiveness. Driver Attention Assist (DAA) can detect when the driver starts to become drowsy or distracted, and prompts them to take a break.
The 3D camera system combines data collected from 24-GHz radar sensors housed within the rear bumper, allowing IDAS to actively monitor and react to any potential hazards around the vehicle. Housing the radar sensors in the bumpers allows the D-MAX's Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) system accurately to detect other vehicles and motorcycles approaching from the rear. The radar system also works double duty as the vehicle's Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) system, which monitors approaching vehicles when reversing from a parking space or driveway.
IDAS incorporates Lane Departure Prevention (LDP), Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Emergency Lane Keeping (ELK) systems will either alert the driver when the D-MAX is venturing out of the lane or engage systems that will actively steer the D-MAX back towards the centre of the lane at speeds above 60km/h and when safe to do so.
The main IDAS 3D Camera are mounted at the top of the windshield, high-up and away from any potential hazards so not to be the subject to damage from stone and debris when driven on or off-road. Mounting the system high-up also increases the camera's range and depth perception, allowing IDAS to process more information from varied angles to identify and determine potential hazards earlier to allow the system more time to react and alleviate the vehicle's approach.
Another significant benefit of the IDAS is the seamless integration with accessories. With many ute owners opting to install frontal protection to their utes, Isuzu has engineered IDAS to work in conjunction with Isuzu UTE Genuine frontal protection options, such as nudge bars and bull bars—including bull bars with UHF aerials fitted. Coinciding with the launch of the All-New Isuzu D-MAX, a range of Genuine Isuzu nudge bars and bull bars in steel and alloy—with provisions to mount a UHF antenna at the dedicated mount spot—will be available. These Genuine Isuzu UTE accessories have been specifically engineered and calibrated to work in complete harmony with Isuzu's IDAS.
Inside the cabin, 8 airbags surround the driver and passengers, including dual front, dual side, dual full-length curtain, a front knee and a centre (far-side) airbag. The addition of the knee and centre airbag are relatively uncommon in the segment and testament to Isuzu's commitment to safety when manufacturing vehicles for Australian roads.
Constructed extensively using ultra-high and high tensile steel, the All-New D-MAX's body and chassis is lighter, stronger and safer. Designed with large deformation zones around the cabin capable of absorbing high-energy impact forces, the engineered crumple zones distribute forces over a wider area, bypassing the occupant cell. Through additional reinforcement in key areas, the D-MAX's occupant cell has been engineered to retain its integrity in the event of an impact—with the cabin roof strengthened with four times the strength-to-weight ratio of the preceding model.
Standard across the range, a new array of sensors now control headlight and windshield wiper operation, automatically turning them on and off when needed. The same system also regulates the All-New D-MAX's high-beam headlights, dimming between high- and low-beam when it detects an oncoming car, up to 600 meters away. The D-MAX SX models features conventional, combination halogen globes, whereas D-MAX LS and X-TERRAIN models feature self-levelling Bi-LED headlights, with LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL), which are brighter, smarter and more-efficient at producing and throwing more light, with a wider and greater range. LS and X-TERRAIN models also feature LED fog lights, which have been recessed in the bumper with the turn indicators for improved aerodynamics and pedestrian impact safety.
Also standard across the range is Automatic Windshield Wipers, which automatically wipes the windshield when needed and varies the frequency of the wipe depending on the amount of rain detected. D-MAX LS-U and X-TERRAIN models also benefit from Intuitive Flat Wiper Blades, combining the windshield wipers and washers integrated across the wiper blade. This innovative system disperses washer fluid across the leading edge of the wiper blade when in use, allowing for a cleaner more effective wipe that uses less washer fluid and lowers the chances of streaking and chattering of the wiper blade. The new blades feature a new aerodynamic blade design, which decreases drag when not in use and a new reversing motor that periodically flexes the wiper blade to prevent unwanted debris build-up and material fatigue, effectively extending the wiper blade life by two-fold. With passenger comfort in mind, the windshield is coated and reinforced with a IR (Infrared) Cut film, which blocks harmful ultraviolet rays from entering the cabin and reduces the internal cabin temperature—particularly when parked in full sunlight.
Convenience is further enhanced on the All-New D-MAX X-TERRAIN, with the welcomed addition of Smart Entry and Start, Remote Engine Start, Walk Away Door Lock (WADL) and Welcome Light. Drivers can leave their smart key in their pocket or bag and enter and start the D-MAX with Smart Entry and Start, at the push of a button. Remote Engine Start takes convenience and comfort to the next level, allowing the driver to remotely start the engine and allow the dual zone climate control air conditioning system to cool or warm the cabin, before stepping inside. Added security protocols scan for the Smart Key and keep the doors locked, preventing unauthorised entry to inside the car, whilst Remote Engine Start is in use. When the driver leaves the X-TERRAIN, as part of the Welcome Light the headlights will automatically illuminate the pathway ahead for a pre-set time and WADL will automatically lock the car when the D-MAX detects the Smart Key is over 3 meters away from the door.
Providing additional safety and with customer feedback in mind, all D-MAX models come standard with a Reverse Camera with integrated parking lines and a rear-step bumper—constructed from Fibre-Reinforced Plastic (FRP)—which houses the rear IDAS radar sensors.
With a braked towing capacity of 3.5-tonnes, all models come equipped with Trailer Sway Control (TSC), which will intervene if trailer sway is detected, bringing the D-MAX and trailer back under control.

Exterior
Evoking a sense of toughness and dynamism, even whilst standing still, the front façade draws your eye towards the unmistakably defined signature front grille—featuring horizontal bars that nods to Isuzu's commercial truck heritage. This swooping design continually flows towards the arches, with angled Bi-LED headlights (LS-M, LS-U and X-TERRAIN only) featuring LED daytime running lights (DRL) bulging from the bodywork to create that menacing, yet alluring look. Recesses in the bumper hide the indicators and LED fog lights, all the while continuing with the aggressive sense of speed in the design. Then there's the complimentary array of hard lines and angles running the length of the vehicle and along the bonnet and roof atop. Uniformed in design, ruptured flared angles across the body and doors flow from front to rear, seamlessly integrating at the rear tub before flowing downwards toward the rear LED combination lights that symmetrically flank the tailgate. Then there's the swollen muscular guards that complete the ruggedly menacing stance, accentuating the lean body and horizontal lines. The X-TERRAIN takes the design to the next-level, with metallic grey trim highlights and a chiselled front chin spoiler, paired with flared grey guards, aero sports bar and rear aero-spoilers that gives the new top-of-the-range D-MAX a distinctively sportier expression. All in all, the All-New D-MAX is arguably the best-looking ute on Australian roads.
Along with the new sleek styling comes welcomed substance, through the reduction of drag and aerodynamic performance optimisation over the preceding D-MAX. Through simulated testing in the Japanese Railway Technical Research Institute's wind tunnel—the same facility that the Japanese Bullet Train was designed in—Isuzu engineers have improved on the All-New D-MAX's drag coefficient. A new integrated roof spoiler and tailgate spoiler creates a venturi effect and minimises drag and lift at high speeds. Front wheel skirts divert airflow around the front wheels and down the sides of the D-MAX, which have a minimal gap tolerance between the body and tub to prevent turbulence and drag. Up top, the roof features a longitudinal channel, which funnels air cleanly down towards the rear. Space Cab models also feature an extended side spat, which promotes continuous airflow down the sides of the D-MAX. The end result is a 3% improvement in aerodynamic performance, greater high speed stability and manoeuvrability and lower wind noise emissions.
Interior
With the majority of Australian motorists spending on average, upwards of three hours behind the wheel each day, cars have increasingly become a place of office dealings, family catch-ups and places of zen and solitude—no longer just a simple method of commuting. With driver and passenger comfort, ergonomics and journey experience in mind, Isuzu engineers have completely overhauled the D-MAX interior, with a focus on occupant comfort and higher levels of standard equipment, premium textures and finishes and the very latest in connectivity with smart phone mirroring and true hands-free voice recognition integration. Providing a new layer of health and safety to the All-New D-MAX's Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system is a High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) cabin air filter, with a PM2.5 (particulate matter under 2.5 micrometres) rating to significantly filter our 99.95% of airborne fine-particulate matter from entering the cabin through the air vents. With feedback from families in mind, all Crew Cab models also benefit from additional rear passenger air vents, which have class-leading range of direction and control.
The 6-speed manual transmission lever now features a pull-ring selector to make it easier to select reverse, with the selector boot trimmed in a durable urethane leatherette material on SX and LS-M models and premium-leather on LS-U. The 6-speed automatic transmission selector has been redesigned and modernised to give it a more precise and premium shift feel. Isuzu's Terrain Command 4x4 switch is now conveniently mounted on the dash, freeing up valuable real-estate around the leather wrapped gear selector (LS-U and X-TERRAIN only) and handbrake, allowing space to fit larger water bottles.
Storage spaces have been further refined in the All-New D-MAX, with crew cab doors now featuring space to accommodate a 1.5-litre bottle as part of the 10 cup holders available within, including the famed pop-out cup holders below the air vents. All models feature a large glove box, centre console storage, a coin and card box on the driver's side and large cavernous door storage pockets—with LS and X-TERRAIN models benefiting from an additional top glove box. LS and X-TERRAIN models also feature a new-design to Isuzu's push-button operated, top of dash storage box, trimmed with premium soft-touch materials. On Crew Cab models, the emergency jack and toolkit has been relocated to behind the rear seats, freeing up two spacious sound-insulated storage boxes under the rear seat base.
With a focus on passenger comfort and ergonomics, rear doors on Crew Cab models have been optimised with more space to get in and out, courtesy of redesigned hinges that require one-fifth of the effort to open and close. Passengers also benefit from more space, with improvements made to hip, head, knee and toe room and overall optimisation of interior space for all passengers. Similar to the preceding D-MAX, the rear seat features an in-built centre armrest with cup holders (excluding SX models) and comprises of a 70/30 split that can be folded completely flat to suit individual storage needs and to accommodate heavier items such as a 12-volt fridge.
Seats are now trimmed in three levels of upholstery; hard-wearing cloth on SX, premium high-grade cloth on LS models and leather-accented on X-TERRAIN. Both front seats feature up to 6-way adjustment (4-way adjustment on passenger), with up to 55mm of height-range adjustment—a 15mm extended range over the preceding model. LS-U and X-TERRAIN models also benefit from power-adjustable lumbar support, which tailors a driver's seating to their individual preference. X-TERRAIN drivers will be able to fine-tune their optimal driving position, with 8-way power adjustment as part of their leather-accented pew. Extensive use of dual-density foam provides uncompromised lateral support and comfort for all passengers, whilst also absorbing and providing additional insulation from unwanted road vibrations. Recognising the needs of families with young children, all D-MAX Crew Cab models can accommodate two ISOFIX compatible children seats.
Compared with the preceding D-MAX, the All-New D-MAX features unseen levels of fit and finish, interior inclusions, comfort and ergonomics, to improve the journey experience of all.
Body and Chassis
Leaner, stronger and more spacious, the All-New D-MAX features a new body constructed extensively using ultra-high tensile steel—which is close to four times the strength of conventional mild steel, but at a fraction of the weight. Close to half of the body (46%) now uses 440 MPa (megapascal) high tensile steel in its construction—which is double the strength of conventional mild steel. Top-shelf 980 MPa ultra-high tensile steel is extensively employed throughout the structural cell; body pillars, bulkhead and sills for uncompromised strength and rigidity, lighter weight and improved occupancy safety. Overall, the body weighs in at 8kg lighter with a 20% improvement in rigidity in comparison with the preceding D-MAX. The roof has also been significantly reinforced by 107%, to accommodate a payload of up to 100kg. Under the body, extensive use of corrosion-preventative undercoats, sealants and inhibitors have been used to protect the body from harmful and corrosive elements, with Isuzu engineers focusing on the underside, mounting points and inner panelling. 6 large shear body mounts replace the 6 conventional body mounts seen in the predecessor—connecting the body to the chassis across a wider and more-even footprint, whilst absorbing road noise and vibrations from transmitting through the chassis to the body. Extensive use of Ethyl Vinyl Acetate (EVA) foam throughout the body also significantly lowers noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) from entering the cabin. Cabin doors feature overlapping rubber seals running the full circumference of each door, with window frame rubber seals containing a deeper centralised insulated internal channel, for greater longevity and cabin insulation from unwanted NVH. With feedback from off-road enthusiasts in mind, the rear cabin outlet valves have been overhauled in favour of larger centrally mounted valve, with an improvement in dust sealing and external insulation.
Stronger, lighter and more durable, the new chassis is the backbone of the All-New D-MAX and gives this 1-tonne ute the famed capability and capacity. Engineered for durability and robustness, yet remaining energy absorbent in the unlikely event of an impact, the new truck-derived ladder-frame chassis improves on the predecessor's strengths and is extensively constructed using high tensile steel for lightness and superior frame rigidity. Through the adoption of wider and taller longitudinal chassis rails and reinforcement through additional cross members in optimal areas, the All-New D-MAX is the strongest Isuzu ute ever, with longitudinal and torsional rigidity improved by 26% and 20% respectively. This chassis and body combination is the strongest and most durable ever seen in a D-MAX, featuring improvements in corrosion-resistance, rigidity, capacity, quietness and safety.
Dimensions and Capacities
Measuring in at 30mm shorter than the preceding D-MAX, the All-New D-MAX boasts increased load area dimensions. Overall the ute is wider, has a lower roof-line, a longer wheelbase, shorter front and rear overhangs, with improved ground clearance, approach, departure and ramp-over angles. Despite retaining the same internal tray width of preceding D-MAX ute models at 1530mm, there is now more usable room; with 15mm more internal length and 30mm more internal depth. Cab Chassis models also benefit from increased load areas; with Crew Cab Chassis trays measuring in at 150mm longer at 1,800mm in length and Space Cab Chassis trays also measuring in with an additional 150mm in length, at 2,100mm. Shorter in overall vehicle length, but with more useable space in the cabin and the load area—courtesy of clever engineering—the All-New D-MAX is among the best in-class when it comes to capacity to carry.

Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
With occupant safety in mind, Isuzu engineers have fitted the largest front brakes of any 1-tonne ute, to the All-New D-MAX. Measuring in at 320mm in diameter by 30mm in width, the new vented front rotors have significantly better stopping performance and cooling efficiency, and are clamped by twin-piston floating calipers.
With the larger brakes come larger and wider wheels with wider tyre tread, providing an increased contact patch with the road surface. D-MAX SX models come equipped with hardy 17x7" +33 steel wheels fitted with 255/65 R17 Dunlop AT25 All-Terrain tyres. The LS-M is fitted with the same all-terrain tyres, but with the added styling of 9-spoke 17x7" +33 alloy wheels. The LS-U and X-TERRAIN come equipped with larger and wider 18x7.5" +33 alloys, wrapped in 265/60R18 Bridgestone 684II Highway Terrain tyres, with the LS-U sporting a two-tone machined face finish and the X-TERRAIN treated to a matt grey finish that complements the rest of the unique styling.
Improvements in the All-New D-MAX's ride, comfort and handling have been made with a heavily redesigned suspension—a suspension tune engineered for Australian conditions. Up front, new double wishbone suspension with new high-mounted upper-control arms reduce unwanted body roll, whilst optimising the roll centre geometry and improving vehicle handling and dynamics. A heavily redesigned 34mm-diameter front anti-roll bar further aids in optimising roll centre geometry and reducing body roll—a sizeable 17% diameter increase of +5mm over the preceding D-MAX.
Improving on the 3-leaf rear suspension system first introduced in the 2018 D-MAX, the All-New D-MAX features lighter and stronger leaf springs and new rear dampers that are mounted 7° closer to being perpendicular with the chassis and spring. This optimises the rear suspension's geometry and operation range, increasing rear axle travel by an additional 30mm—for greater flexibility and articulation—whilst improving in overall vehicle ride dynamics and compression. The new 3-leaf rear springs are now manufactured using stronger SUP9 rated steel—resulting in a significant improvement in strength, ductility and corrosion and fatigue resistance. Overall, the new rear 3-leaf springs save 1.4-5.8kg in unsprung weight on the rear axle compared with the preceding D-MAX, which further enhances handling and dynamics.
Steering feel and weight has been significantly improved through the introduction of Electric Power Steering (EPS). Calibrated to provide generous levels of feedback and tactility whilst being light and manoeuvrable, the new EPS system is mechanically lighter, more efficient and requires significantly less maintenance than the outgoing hydraulic system. The new EPS system also works in tandem with IDAS, integrating with assistance features such as Lane Keep Assist and Lane Departure Prevention, which can autonomously steer the vehicle towards the centre of the lane when lane drifting is detected. Slow-speed manoeuvrability has been further improved, with the All-New D-MAX boasting a turning circle of only 12.5 meters, a 10cm improvement over the preceding model and one of the tightest turning circles in the ute class.
On-Road and Off-Road
With a new lighter and stronger body and chassis, the All-New D-MAX has seen significant enhancements in ride and handling. The geometry of the front suspension has been completely overhauled, with new high-mount upper-control arms improving the roll centre geometry of the vehicle for improved vehicle dynamics, predictability and handling. Whereas thicker front anti-roll bars improve vehicle body roll and overall manoeuvrability. Rear suspension has also been extensively revised, with new stronger and lighter 3-leaf springs and optimised mounting of the rear dampers. High-speed stability and manoeuvrability is further enhanced with a 30mm longer wheel base and a 15mm shorter front and 45mm shorter rear overhang. Larger and wider wheels and tyres benefit traction, handling and stability too; measuring in at up to 7.5" wide on LS-U and X-TERRAIN models, the wider rim features 265/60R18 tyres, with +10mm wider rubber wrapping each wheel—providing a larger contact patch with the road.
With off-roader enthusiasts in mind, Isuzu engineers have improved the All-New D-MAX's off-road tractability, durability and capability. All 4x4 models come standard with a 2.482:1 dual-range transfer case, a stronger and lighter 1-piece aluminium tailshaft and an electro-magnetic rear differential lock, which is conveniently activated at a press of a button. The engine air intake has been heavily revised to now featuring a labyrinth of sealed airways that allows the D-MAX to wade through water of up to 800mm, at a constant pace of 7km/h. Unique for the Australian-specification D-MAX, a pre-fabricated pathway in the internal wheelhouse panel allows for easy installation of engine snorkels. Insuring that water ingression does not occur during water crossings, differential breather hoses are routed through the body and vented clear above the 800mm wading depth capacity. Extensive 1.5mm-thick steel and poly-composite underbody protection protects vital powertrain components from debris and ground strikes when off-road, whereas the 76-litre polyurethane fuel tank receives an additional layer of aluminium shielding. Front and rear suspension has seen extensive optimisation, with an increase in ductility, flexibility and articulation over the preceding D-MAX.
Ground clearance has never been better in a D-MAX, with the cabin floor now mounted 20mm higher off the ground. Overall ground clearance has been further improved with the SX and LS-M models measuring in at 235mm and the LS-U and X-TERRAIN clearing 240mm. With the comprehensive redesign of the body and chassis, comes a welcomed improvement to the Approach, Departure and Ramp-Over Angles, which now measure in at 30.5°, 24.2° and 23.8° respectively, on the range-topping X-TERRAIN.
Genuine Accessories
Owners will have the privilege of fitting out their All-New D-MAX with an extensive selection of Isuzu UTE Genuine Accessories, enhancing their vehicle to their own specific taste. A full catalogue of parts and accessories is available through local Isuzu UTE Dealers, with over 50 accessories available exclusively for the All-New D-MAX at the time of launch. With an extensive range of canopies, rear covers, frontal protection and dress-up accessories, all components have been tested and developed for local conditions, completely IDAS compatible and come backed by a comprehensive 3-year or 100,000km parts and accessory warranty.
Service Plus 6-7-7
Testament to the confidence instilled within the very DNA of the All-New D-MAX, IUA has improved on the comprehensive ownership care package program, Service Plus 6-7-7; encompassing a 6 Year/150,000km Warranty, up to 7 Years Roadside Assistance when serviced through IUA Dealers and 7 Years Capped Price Servicing (CPS) program.
Through improvements and efficiencies made within the powertrain, the cost of maintaining an All-New D-MAX through CPS is around 12% less than the preceding model—with 7 years worth of CPS totalling only $3,373—making it among the most cost-effective utes to maintain.

About Isuzu UTE
Based in Brisbane, Queensland, Isuzu UTE Australia was founded in 2008 bringing the award winning Isuzu D-MAX to Australia and then in 2013, the Isuzu MU-X 7-seat SUV. Despite being comparatively new to Australia, our global network is extremely well established with over 100 years of automotive experience and expertise behind us.
We are a wholly owned subsidiary of Japan's largest trading and investment company, Mitsubishi Corporation with which Isuzu Motors Limited has extensive business arrangements. Isuzu Motors dates back to 1916 and is now the world's largest manufacturer of trucks and diesel engines. Producing heavy, medium and light-duty trucks, buses, passenger vehicle engines, marine and industrial-use diesel engines, Isuzu Motors is at the forefront of vehicle chassis and diesel engine technology.
Our resources and our automotive knowledge are vast, and this shows in the quality of our product and level of service. With a network of over 157 authorised Isuzu UTE outlets across every state and territory in Australia, we pride ourselves on providing the highest level of service and support throughout the entire country.
