Melbourne, Australia - 16th September 2019
Indian Motorcycle, with heritage stemming back as far as 1901, has a proud history in racing with the infamous Indian Motorcycle Wrecking Crew, dominating racing both on and off road in the 1950's, while more recently taking out the 2017 and 2018 AMA Flat track Championship with Jarred Mees aboard the FTR 750. Continuing with this history, Indian Motorcycle Australia is pleased to announce the sponsorship of the 2019 Sultans of Slide series in New South Wales.
With a prize pool of over $10,000, the Sultans of Slide is set to shake things up in world of Dirt Track Racing in Australia. Participants will be running 19" wheels across a range of classes at three different events in 2019.
Motorcycling NSW CEO Dave Cooke: "It's great to have Indian Motorcycle on-board and supporting racing in NSW. The brand has such a rich heritage, both on the track and off it, so for the Sultans of Slide to play a part in promoting their new FTR 1200 is a real privilege. The series is already beginning to gain some momentum as riders are finally seeing the details that I'm sure they've already heard rumours about. We're trying a lot of new and exciting initiatives within Sultans of Slide, and it's great to see companies like Indian Motorcycle recognising that the spotlight will be on the sport".
Tom Mendey, Indian Motorcycle: "Indian Motorcycle has a vast history when it comes to flat track, from the Wrecking Crew of old through to the Wrecking Crew of today who're dominating the AMA Flat Track series on FTR 750 race bikes. This success and rich history sparked us to develop the FTR 1200 - a high performance, all-American street tracker based on the FTR 750 that you can ride on the road which is hugely exciting for us.
With Sultans of Slide adapting their regulations to align more to the standards of the AMA Flat Track series, it was a great opportunity for us to support the sport here in Australia and get the FTR 1200 in front of passionate motorcyclists."
