Buyers of the Brand-New Mazda CX-9 will enjoy a vehicle that is almost 25 per cent more fuel efficient compared to the outgoing model.

The Brand-New Mazda CX-9 with Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) boasts combined fuel economy figures from as little as 8.4 litres per 100 kilometres, while its All-Wheel Drive (AWD) sibling sips from a low 8.8 litres per 100 kilometres.

This represents a 23.6 per cent improvement on the current FWD model, while AWD figures drop by 21.4 per cent. When focusing on urban numbers, FWD fuel economy improves by 27.6 per cent and the AWD alternative by 25 per cent.

Running on standard unleaded (91 RON) or with E10, these new numbers make the Brand-New Mazda CX-9 the most economical in its class when compared against other seven-seater petrol models.

Arriving at Mazda Dealers nationally mid-year, the Brand-New Mazda CX-9 features an all-new 2.5 litre direct-injection turbo charged petrol engine with a high 10.5:1 compression ratio. It also includes a dual-valve Dynamic Pressure Turbo that quickly generates power, and a cooled exhaust gas recirculation system (EGR) that – unlike many rival turbocharged engines - lowers engine temperatures without having to add extra fuel.

With 170kW of power at 5,000rpm, the Brand-New Mazda CX-9 has an improved 420 Nm of torque at a low 2,000rpm – representing a torque increase of almost 15 per cent – which allows for smooth and responsive acceleration in the low- to mid-rpm range where CX-9 drivers spend the vast majority of their time.

In addition, the Mazda CX-9 will be lighter than ever before with over 160 kilograms being stripped out of the range-topping Australian-spec new-generation model.

"The fuel economy numbers alone position Brand-New Mazda CX-9 as a class-leading option for buyers wanting a large, seven-seater, petrol SUV," said Mazda Australia marketing director Alastair Doak.

"The all-new SKYACTIV-G 2.5T turbo charged engine is an impressive piece of Mazda innovation with world-first technology that prevents turbo lag. The result of this, in part, is in the low fuel economy numbers.

"The CX-9 has always been very highly regarded; we think that even more SUV buyers will want to acquaint themselves with this car once they see the brand-new new model in the metal. There's a lot to like in this vehicle."

The Brand-New Mazda CX-9 features the efficient and lightweight SKYACTIV Technology, a range of i-ACTIVSENSE advanced safety technologies, the impressive i-ACTIV AWD all-wheel drive system, and the award-winning 'KODO - Soul of Motion' design language.
