Mazda has had the biggest month of sales in its history selling 12,501 vehicles in June, according to VFACTS figures released today.

This new benchmark helped Mazda to a record 118,740 sales for the Australian financial year ending 30 June, 2017. Mazda also enjoyed a record first half (61,496 retails) and had its best ever quarter (31,034).

Mazda's June sales result bettered the previous record of 12,455 set last June, but could have been a lot higher but for the shortage in stock across several nameplates. The tally gave Mazda a 9.3 per cent slice of the Australian market.

Year-To-Date (YTD), Mazda has sold 61,496 cars, SUVs and utes, up 0.9 per cent Year-On-Year (YOY) for a 10.3 per cent market share. Mazda is the nation's second most popular automotive brand and the leading full-line importer.

With SUV sales edging passenger cars by a mere 20 units (5,395 to 5,375) in June, New Mazda CX-3 had its best month ever, while Brand-New Mazda CX-9 and Mazda BT-50 each enjoyed its second best month on record.

Despite the market's increasing interest in SUVs, it was once again the Mazda3 that led Mazda's sales charge, with 3,490 June retails. Currently celebrating 40 years of Mazda3 lineage, 18,052 Mazda3s have been sold YTD. It sits second in its segment YTD.

New Mazda2, with its now class-leading array of standard active safety technology, and Mazda6, the nation's most popular mid-size import under $60,000, both had their best sales month of the year with 1,399 and 377 sales, respectively. Mazda MX-5 scored 109 June sales.

The success of the CX range continues unabated, with Next-Gen Mazda CX-5 - the country's most popular SUV - recording a healthy 2,487 June sales, its biggest sales month since last June.

New Mazda CX-3 had its best month on record, with 1,974 June sales, while the Brand-New Mazda CX-9 posted 934 retails. This is the second time that the CX-9 has nudged, but not passed, 1,000 sales in a month. Such is the popularity of this award-winning large SUV, it will better its previous full-year sales record of 5,123 (set last year), in July.

In addition, off the back of a range of strong EOFY deals, Mazda BT-50 had its second best month on record, with 1,731 utes finding new homes last month - with 4x2s up 5 per cent YTD.

Mazda Australia managing director, Vinesh Bhindi said: "Record sales – whether monthly, quarterly, or full year – are always satisfying, but when I look at the figures what pleases me the most is that we don't rely on one single nameplate to lead the way. Mazda has a range of vehicles that are stylish in their design, have a long list of standard safety technologies and are fun to drive. These, along with the first class sales experience, help drive customers into the Dealership. It's a very good first half performance that sets the foundation for more sales success in the second half of the year."
